Good evening
Sometime during the next 10 days or so we will be migrating the forum to a new and upgraded server. For the technically minded the move takes us to a dual core processor and RAID configuration with twice the memory of the current server. Naturally, there will be some disruption to services as the migration will necessitate a new IP address and thus a change to the (multiple) DNS entries and these can take 24-72 hours to propogate. We will obviously attempt to minimise the delay which is helped by the fact that our DNS servers are locally managed and should thus propogate in Australia first. Further updates as more information becomes available. Regards Russ

UPDATE - 11/7/06
After a successful test migration last Friday we will be performing the real migration commencing at 11.00 p, tonight. The sequence of events are as follows: 1. The present forum will be disabled at 11.00 p.m tonight and a place holder page put in place advising that the forum is down and explaining why. It will not be possible to post during this time. 2. The database migration is scheduled for completion before 6.00 a.m tomorrow (Wednesday). 3. A new place holder page will be placed on the current server with a link to the home page at the new server - this should only be necessary until the DNS names have all propagated correctly. We estimate 24-48 hours for this to take effect. 4. The new database will initially be disabled while we conduct tests to ensure that the data has migrated correctly. 5. It is expected that the new server will be available for posting no later than 9.00 a.m Wednesday. If there are any delays or difficulties these will be advised via the temporary home page. Those experiencing difficulties should email their issues to admin@fordforums.com.au and we will attempt to resolve them promptly. We don't expect any substantial issues but I am sure some little gremlins will happen during the migration process. Cheers Russ

Well after an "interesting" 25 hours we are BACK.
Remind me to go on a long holiday next time we have to do this! I won't go into the long story but I expect that there will still be the odd glitch as we find other files that are missing besides the ones that stopped the board being back up about 12 hours ago. Just post any issues you find here and we'll attempt to fix them quickly. Cheers Russ

We are aware that the Gallery is broken at the moment. I suspect it is another missing file somewhere in the configuration but that one can wait until tomorrow!
Cheers Russ

Final update for tonight:
1. We know what is causing the avatar issue and have passed it back to the ISP to fix as it is something they haven't installed. 2. The gallery problem is an unknown at the moment but might be related to the avatar one as they both use the same application ot display them (GD2 for those who know). 3. The recent database error were me playing with something where I accidentally changed the ownership of a file! That's fixed now. 4. AFF email is not functional at the moment so new post notifications won't work until we reconfigure that. Hopefully sometime tomorrow. Cheers Russ

A bit of a marathon effort but I am glad it's ( mostly ) over now !!!
We'll go through things bit by bit and sort them. edit: add some problems with the resources and timeslips but avatars and gallery seem OK. timeslips back.. although I didn't do anything .... but I will take the credit.: |

Finally the shakes have subsided.
Can there be a temp site next time, so I can still get my AFF fix? I wasn't thinking straight and I went into the old FF site... I don't feel to good.... Well done guys!
