They are probably correct. HSV usually turn the wick up every 18months or so. Great if you want a new HSV, lousy if you want resale. Still is better than FPV sitting on their hands- Boss 290, anyone.

To increase the peak power in most of this stuff is just as easy as lifting the redline a few hundred RPM.
If you really want to have an interesting look at "performance" engines compare the demonstrated power at a fixed point in the "real world" e.g. 5000rpm. You may be surprised at which "perfromance" engines don't actually perform all that well...... |

am i reading that right?
"To coincide with the arrival of the new Holden Commodore VF – the September update for the VE Commodore - the new E-Series 2 will also get styling changes designed to freshen the look of the Commodore-based performance cars." Not sure if this is usually the case but are they saying the HSV's will still be VE's while the rest of the range move to VF's? Like FPV keeping the BFII wile the xr6T is FG - I know which one I would take. |

they dont really need to do a whole heap of changes on a car to release a new model. how many falcons and commodores had only subtle changes? and there you have it a new model

the VE was released in 06 would of thought they had updates already, maybe trying to string out the 2 (VE-VF) models before an all new face lift.

It should be enough for HSV's range to secure bragging rights over the GT for the next 12 months.
That is unless the "6th Anniversary" model that FPV is planning is more than just another sticker pack (with planned build numbers of only 40 utes & 40 sedans it's doubtful), or we get Coyote before the Euro IV deadline. |

So i take it if they pump out 327KW all next gen GT's will be 325KW no seriously from whats been said coyote should have GT's above HSV offering for once. Heck if FPV put some better rubber on the rear of the F6 that would be enough, doesnt even need a power increase

Badge zealots make up a very small section of the market. For have consistantly offered products that demonstrate more power than the badge, "option H" are often the reverse. While ever Ford badges are less than "option H" badges the screaming wowsers have nowhere to go. Recent history; F6 released and quoted as "greatest torque ever offered", media screams and rants. W427 released and quoted as most powerful car in Aus history, media coos and burbles like a baby. Previous history; The supercar scare that stuffed everthing was not about the Torana GTR XU2 nor the Charger E55, it was the Phase IV GTHO that was the antichrist and Ford were the axis of evil. "option H" had to release a $150k limited edition to outpace a $70k F6 and it does not take much at all to enhance an F6 to even the odds if that is where you want to play. "option H" and FPV have very different market sectors which become very obvious quite quickly during conversations with various owners. |

The LS3 makes 325 kw in the Corvette, the 317 kw HSV was just slightly detuned. It wouldn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out they would eventually just bring it back up to its original 325 with the next model.
Luckily FPV have said they will stop playing these little couple of kilowatts here and there game and will just move the game forward even further with the blown V8. |

Or just take some weight out , design the current range on offer with better handling even with less power it would be a better package.
* Less weight. * Better Suspension. If FPV start getting into the power war with HSV it isnt going to be long beofre the gov step in and say thats it power is capped at x amount. |

I hope they do, actually i hope they just come out with an absolute monster....then if the government steps in, they can just 'badge' it to a more suitable power figure.

Lighter is the way to go for sure. An FPV or HSV 200kg lighter would be a much better car than one with 50kw more if the weight stays the same or they continue to put on so much excess lard.

Who would want to buy a Holden anyway.....common as dirt
HSV....there is nothing special about owning a Commondore, no matter how you badge it....when it came to the crunch in the early 70s, At the Race track Holden backed off in V8 form altogether....nuff said. Cheers alls Last edited by Thankfull; 30-06-2009 at 06:44 PM. |
