Question Starting threads on AFF

I would like the moderators of AFF to clarify this issue at it appears some of my threads are causing some AFF members to chuck a wobbly.

Can threads be started too soon?
If so, what is the maximum time allowed for starting a thread before the event being discussed is due to occur?

You'd be referring to the pits "Bathurst 1000" thread correct?

Posts in any area could be posted how you want, but what you posted to "Start" the thread as mentioned above, there is a certain amount of "posting ettiqute" that should be observed & applied.

In this Case, you simply remarked ont the start time "tradition" of the start time of the 1000.

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...41#post3920841

In stark contrast, EVERY other thread in regards to V8SC events in the pits actually list whats happening with the events. This is last years 1000 thread, admittedly mine:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11309800

other of this years events:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11340082

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11336056

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11334266

As you can see by those links, different members, same start to the thread (in the main first post) is constructive information on the event. If you go right through the history of the threads then you will see the same proceedure.

Maybe a "Bathurst Build up Thread" like last year may have been more appropriate:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11308838

Yes it is early. The transporters havent even arrvived in Bathurst & cars dont start practice till Thursday. & No Huge amount of information has been released by V8SC yet. So yes it is a little early.

Posting ettiquette. Thats the key.

a race thread should be started to discuss the race - not to ask a relatively useless question. by all means ask the question in another thread or wait for the race thread to open before asking it - so far there are many posts (of which some are mine) and nothing on the race at hand. it is fine to go off topic to some degree, but so far the thread has never been on topic

the problem with starting it so early is that it has not really been on topic. we should just have to skim over the posts we have no interest in - not have to leave out the entire first page

it now almost seems to be a contest for who can start the race threads - there are some tough acts to follow, so if starting one up, it would help if there is a relative overview or at least some "on topic" talking points

I would have thought the wednesday evening or thursday before each race would be sufficient for a race result/info/spoiler thread.
Not much in the way of results or times to discuss till the cars actually hit the track!

I agree with this in regards to a thread about a race event, but in regards to the 1000 i can see why a thread has already been started being the biggest event on the calender.

agree, that makes sense. maybe change the current thread into a bathurst banter thread and start the spoiler result thread on thursday.

There's also the Vfacts threads that are a week early so you get two pages of rubbish before some real figures. I know that one has been going down well in the recent months.

Any thread or thread title that is poorly worded, spelt or punctuated has been started too soon. Of this you are guilty, but unfortunately, not unique.
