Hi All....
I posted earlier about choosing between a XR6 and an AU111 XR8 220....... Well I bought the XR8.........It's a Congo green AU111 220 with full leather interior,Premium sound with 6 stacker CD and auto.....75000k's..... The only mod is a 3" single, cat back exhaust....The car is immaculate and drives like new......Needless to say I'm a happy chappy.....Last year I sold my BA turbo and it may have been quicker than the au, the XR8 just feels better balanced, lighter and more responsive......Much nicer for just cruising as THE sound is always there!!!! I love it...... So far I'm getting 400k's on 60 litres which is awesome as I was only getting 350-370 in my VZ V6 company car..... |

Show her off!
I sold a XR6T also which in some ways was a sweeter thing to drive. But there is no subsitute for the V8's raw power and the sound is so sweeeeet!

Geez there's a few of us who sold our XR6T and bought an AU XR8 220!
I sold my BA XR6T and bought an AU220 while waiting for BF's to come down in price. I now have my BF and I'm all set to modify it, but I'm reluctant to sell the AU. For me, its the perfect (and perhaps last?) example of old school muscle with modern driveability. The XR6T is much quicker, but the AU is just as enjoyable to drive in a rumbly V8 kind of way... |

I agree......The AU 220 has some old school heritage to it.....It certainly turns more heads....The exhaust note certainly helps there...... The XR6T's are cheap to modify up to about 260rwkw......After that you still need full exhaust, intercooler, tranny mods, valve springs injectors etc....And to be reliable you need a stronger bottom end.....So it's an easy 10-12k....Buuuut for an everyday street car you can't use that power without getting into trouble or killing yourself/someone else. If I want a race car then I wouldn't be starting with an 1800kg car..... I chose the 220 because it was the best value performance car in my budget(20k).......an XR6T would have been around 24-27k for a low km car....The 220 coast me 18k with only 75000k's.......Leaves me room for mods later!!!!!!!!!!!! The AU is such a nicely balanced car to drive tooooo!!!!!1 |

True for BA's but not for BFs. BF XR6Ts built after May 06 have Typhoon engines, freer flowing dumps and strong manual and auto transmissions. You only need to spend $2500 to get up near 300rwkws.... Best value performance on the planet - thats why I've got one. Not wanting to start anything though - I still love my AU 220 : Mark |
