2020 has been confirmed at 760 hp. Much higher than the 720 people were predicting. Most powerful production v8 available (higher level demon engines aren’t street legal in race spec).

The Mustang Shelby GT500 debuted over 50 years ago as the exclusive successor to the Shelby GT350, and now, half a century later, the beefed-up Mustang has surpassed the Ford GT to become the most powerful Ford to date.

Power wars began long ago.Who will win? Nobody knows. But there is a limit to how far HP can go. Soon, even 1hp on the dyno will be seen as a major victory. It's becoming a joke.

I anticipate that GM will use the new 4.2 TT V8 in the ZL1 mostly because it will be available in Corvette an V Track versions of Cadillac C5 and CT6

Very impressive.
So now G.M will 'follow' FoMoCo with smaller capacity and also with TT just like the V6 Ecoboost has already been for a few years already.... |

Interesting the GT500 is using a 7 speed automatic, not the 10 speed found in other Mustangs.

No and yes..... lol
Powershift was a Dry Clutch only set up with an electric motor/solenoid actuation. The DCT in the GT500 is a hybrid : Featuring twin clutches that engage and release in perfect computer-controlled synchronization, the TREMEC DCT can transition from gear to gear with either imperceptible limousine-like shifts or the ferocity of an F1 machine. “Our virtually dry clutch design marries the benefits of wet and dry clutch technologies into a hybrid design,” explains Antonio Herrera, TREMEC’s managing director.

And why not use the regular Mustang's 10-speed automatic? Widmann said that the dual-clutch can handle more torque than the auto, and the shift times are quicker. Ford Performance wants the GT500 to be fast on a drag strip and on a road course, and a dual-clutch was the best transmission for the job.

I remember reading, this DCT is similar/same as the one fitted to the GT Car.
They've had a couple of years to sort out any issues. |
