My wife's Focus Trend (2lt engine) is 2013 September build and has 24000 km on it. During the last 9000 km it has consumed 3.0 lt of oil.
When the car was in the drive shaft recall, the dealer stated that an oil consumption problem was common in this model. From the next service onwards the dealer will be monitoring the oil consumption. Is anyone else having this problem? |

Did the oil consumption start after an oil change?

I've only noticed the oil consumption in the past 6 months which is after the 12 months service.

I'm just thinking the dealer put the wrong oil in.
3L is new engine time.

The dealer did indicate the engine would use oil if the wrong grade was used.

My 2012 Trend is on 22,000 km. No oil consumption of any significance.

Nothing noticeable has been used in the Mrs car. The 1.4 TSI in my Skoda used to use about that amount (since had a fix), but that engine is renowned for having an oil drinking problem.

There are no oil leaks nor does it blow any smoke hot or cold.
A seal was replaced in June 2014 after oil leaked onto the clutch. When the car was in for the drive-shaft recall a couple of months back, it was found the clutch was out tolerance. As the auto trans still shutters, and it appears to be 6 month wait for a replacement clutch. |

Sounds like engine oil leak from rear onto clutch. Note powershift trans as such a good seal any oil leaks are usually kept in the housing until it is split from engine. Oil consumption could be really a leak also this will cause a clutch sudder. I gather the seals that were replaced were input shaft seals? There is no supply issues for clutches more so the ability for a dealer to get it done..
Which dealer... |
