With the uninspired (imo) advertising of Ford Australia, are there any budding Ad directors among us? Describe your perfect imaginary ad for a current Ford model (include vehicle model, scene, sequence, song), would make some nice discussion

Insomnia bites tonight..
Ad for the FG GT (or pref the GT-H) by Scott ©. 1. A dark and dusty old timber barn/workshop with bright spots of sunshine coming in through holes in the roof. 2. A car sits in the middle with a really old, dusty car cover on it. It is low. 3. You see two pairs of boots walking in, shot from down low and behind - they make that solid sound with every step. 4. As the mysterious men (still only see them from the knee down) approach the covered car, a piece of old Bathurst audio blasts for a second; 5. You see the weathered hand of an old bloke reach out to the car cover as another burst of commentary is heard; 6. The hand scrunches the car cover down near where the headlight is and starts to pull it back; 7. A quick flash of a Ph3 at Bathurst with commentary for a second; 8. The cover is pulled slowly to show the front corner, headlight and perhaps part of the grill (with intercooler); 9. Another flash and sound from Bathurst; 10. This continues as the car is uncovered, bit more flesh, some stats on the car flash up accompanied by a screaming blower whine, then another with a flash the new GT flying by; 11. The car is uncovered and Allan Moffat and Dick Johnson marvel at it like they hand built the thing; 12. Dick takes a seat on a keg or something, Allan starts it and whilst the car sits and rumbles, he sits down with Dick, hands him a steaming cup of coffee.... and they listen, as if that was their sole purpose for going in there. 13. As the ad closes, Moff is heard saying something like "I never thought they could do it again". Both chuckle to themselves. Just of the top of my head, but I think it would make for an awesome ad. Last edited by Scott; 23-12-2010 at 03:20 AM. Reason: © just incase I wake up tomorrow and this is as awesome as I think it is now lol. |

Interesting topic dylan, will be interesting to see what people come up with! I've always wanted to make one of these ads, maybe if a few people put down some ideas we can have a poll. Then with the most popular vote I could set about making/filming it, all for a bit of fun!
cheers, Julza

An urban garage door opens up to reveal an FPV GT-H. **background music: 'well i'm not paralyzed but i seem to be struck by you
i want to make you move because you're standing still if your body matches what your eyes can do you'll probably move right through me on my way to you' / Finger Eleven - Paralyzer ** GT-H gives the motor a nice rev, supercharger audible... then rolls off out of the shot and an almighty roar and screech of tyres. Closing FPV logo/slogan with guitar riff from song. |

I'd love to see an ad in Suburbia, a nice middle class well manicured lawns type shot. Move to a shot of a woman doing the gardening with her "toy" dog a Chihuahua or something. Long of in the background you see the roller door open sinisterly. Inside is a new GT/XR8, it flashes its lights and the dog runs off to investigate. Cue a couple of close up shots of the car, usual car porn sort of stuff. As the dog enters the garage the roller door closes and an engine rev is heard, women screams "FLUFFFYYY NOOO".
Then cut to a shot of the car running through a picturesque back road with some catchy music (think original BA ad) and the voiceover "Ford XR8 (or G8E or GT), not suitable for confined spaces"

Ford should re-do the Ford Territory 'little boy' ad for the next Gen Territory.
Can anyone with video skills re-do the video's audio to start off with 'I wanna be a billiionaire, so freaking bad, buy all of the things I've never had'. For some reason the xylophone bit in the ad reminds me of the song, and it seems to fit the video pretty well haha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpxgDAWPslQ |

Interesting topic.
I'm thinking; 1. Mid 60s bloke washing a silver XW GT in his drive (70s type suburban home, immaculate lawns etc) 2. Silver FPV GT pulls up drive. 3. Old bloke stops and gives an inquisitive look, as if to say who's this? 4. Late 30's/Early 40s bloke gets out with a smile and a "Gday dad" 5. Old man with a checky grin replies " 'Bout time you got your own" 6. Pan to some nice shots of FPV with XW in back ground with the two blokes admiring the new machine. 7. Finish with black screen and maybe "FPV, where's yours?" |

^^ Nice, reminiscent of the Mustang adds in the US. Very effective with a good display of lineage and longevity in the market.

1 it's back 2 some footage from running on empty of the ho and the sound when leaving servo or when ho done up 3 then a storm rolls in on horizon 4 we hear the new beast idle then the whine 5 then a shot of new car 6 the new and old parked together with dick and allan go over the ph3 and flashbacks of the beast in action then frosty comes in and says welcome to the future my friends and they all have a laugh ah well something like that anyway |

Scott, that would be epic. Mr Smith, I like that too.
OK so advertising rules say we cant show cars going fast. but what about using high speed cameras and then slowing it down, would give the look of speed, without showing speed? seeing the wheels pressed up under the guards, with small pieces of road debris being thrown up by the tyres in HD crispness as the car hugs a corner with popping and cackling from the pipe also slowed to match the film, bit like the first scene in apocolypse now with the helicopter sound (rythmic, tonal, a complex sound when it is slowed down). You could use the same effect used in the movie "the ring" with the girl when she comes towards victims so that the unexciting bits (ie straights between corners would pass in a flash and we would be into the next corner with the high speed film slowed down. So open with a black screen and silence with a simple quote in white in the middle of the screen (this is one I found without much a search) but even use a great philosopher like Aristotle to kick it up a notch in the sophistication stakes. Or use a latin origin or the word power "potere" - power/potent ie "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” - Abraham Lincoln So we see the car in a 3d type of pan as it moves between corners zooming in and slowing the film for the corners focusing on different parts of the car each time we zoom in. Then we zoom out to a falcons view of the car, and immediately dive towards the car, we go into the airbox and follow the path of air fuel mixture through the supercharger (with whine noise), engine (with mechanical noise and combustion visuals and noise), exhaust (with note) at each step, the specs of the relevant parts are shown. We exit the exhaust and the note changes to a gorgeous "s/c V8 under load" noise and we see the car dissapear with its its note trailing off. As the car vanishes towards the horizon a caption comes up that says, "The new Supercharged GT falcon, unless your'e driving one, this will be all you'll see. "

I find the ford ads big on gimmicks ie chick smiling stupidly etc and not enough time is spent on the angles of the car, right hand profile is always the go and they could get some more punchier music. The commodore adds are really in your face and grab your attention like the ''Thunderstruck ute'' and the evolution of holden add

dick johnson dreased as doc from back to the future, russel ingall deressed as marty. they're pictured backed in seventies and looking for the time machine through dense bush. they finally come across the time machine and remove branches and bushes from it , only to reveil the 1970 gtho .they hop in and set the date for 2010. I'll let someone else go on from here, I'm not really up to it. but thought I'd throw that in.

Turbo, some great opportunities for brilliant visuals there, particularly exiting the exhaust with a blast of note and the car burning off on it's way to some exciting driving.
