The ovens electric. I've been trying to figure out why my electricity bill is through the roof. Normal is $300ish per 1/4. I've been getting $450+ per 1/4 bills.
Found the problem. My oven has been turning itself on. I rang Westinghouse and guess what? It's a known problem. The operator told me she just had hers fixed for the same problem. Why am I ranting? It's only 2 years old! I can't afford to fix a 2yo appliance. I'd rather save and put a better quality item in. One that doesn't require repair after 2 years! Westinghouse obviously have quality problems with their freestyle electric ovens. I won't be buying another Westinghouse item. I'm very ****ed off about this. I bought a new home so I wouldn't have these continual repair issues.

The oven should be plugged in at some point to a power point, I know its a pain, maybe use a timer on it so it only turns on durring "normal" cooking times, or simply turn it off whilst not in use.
Also, http://www.graysonline.com.au/type.asp?TYPE_ID=101 has some great specials every now and then that could save you some dosh.

Yup, I've switched it off @ the power point already. Wished I'd known the oven was doing this prior to my massive elec bills.

That's pretty ****poor, especially that it's costing you $150 extra per 1/4. You'd think they'd compensate somehow, even if it's replacing the oven with a newer and better model.

Westinghouse, Chef and Simpson is owned by Whitegoods giant Electrolux, who make one hell of a product. HOwever, as with everything, there can be quality issues, as you have expierenced. If it is a known problem, in my expierence, they will infact fix the problem for you, to their expense. I run a Retravision store, BTW, so I do know.

Still have Warranty?
If you get enough people to complain you may be able to get the manufacturer to recall the oven. This is a possible safety issue they should look at. |

It's definately a safety issue. Someone could loose a house due to it. Mine luckily was only turning itself onto warm/reheat. You can stick your hand in there and just feel warmth. I got this on the phone : Bought before Jan 04 = 1 year warranty Bought at Jan 04 or after = 2 years warranty. My house was completed in Nov 04. I only had 1 year warranty :( Of which I used to get the seal replaced on the door. The seal on the door was ripped. I noted it when I moved in. The oven hadn't even been used!

Try a website called .org. Its a consumer rights website and forum. Perhaps they will be able to take the fight to westinghouse on your behalf. They do this for selected people The fact that it is a known fault is pivitol in your complaint I think. |

I was told by a technician to never buy westinghouse or fisher & pykle. If or should I say when they break they cost a heap in parts. Sucks to find that out now though hey...

That's why I won't be fixing it. I'll be tossing it for a new one. It was a part of contract when purchasing the house when we bought it 2 or so years ago. Our builder wasn't very good so we couldn't change anything.
It's pretty poor for an oven thats probably been used less than 100 times over 2 and a bit years.

IF you cannot get satisfaction from WH rip it out and replce it with a gas unit...will be cheaper to run an 80kg cyl should last about 8/9months and at 80/90bucks per cyl is a lot cheaper...plus if there's a blackout you can still cook.

Don't know what with. In my prior home. I put in a $1200-$1400 electric cook top. It was fantastic. Cooked as good as a gas one and you couldn't burn your hands on it. I'd spend the $ to get a decent product instead of paying good money for rubbish.
