Default Playstation 2 slimline issue

Hi all,

I was reading yesterday's paper when I came across a big ad for an Electrical Safety Recall. Normally I skim over them and don't pay too much attention. But this time it has actually affected me, and am being sent a new AC adaptor.

So I'm warning everyone else who may have bought the Playstation 2 slimline late last year, check your AC adaptor for the recall.

All the info is here: http://au.playstation.com/recall/

Mine was recalled, they also did a mass email out, pays to keep your details correct

I did the on-line forms, They sent me a new one got it today, all I have to do is put old one in the bag they sent, drop it to the post office (postage paid), and it gets sent back, very simple, very easy, and problem solved

I got that email and signed up for the recall but I haven't got anything from them about it yet, my AC adaptor is fine though, I was doing a endurance race in GT4 and the adaptor was barely warm.

The recall only affects AC adaptors for the PS2 SLIMLINE BLACK other playstations are not affected.'

to check if your AC Adaptor is affected:
On the back of your AC adaptor is a lightning bolt symbol. Directly below that symbol is a number. If the number on yours is HP-ATO48H03 read on...
To the right of the lightning bolt symbol is an exclamation mark symbol. directly below that is the manufacture date stamp. If your date stamp reads [2004-08], [2004-09], [2004-10], [2004-11] or [2004-12] AND your number is HP-AT048H03 your adaptor is affected.

Please note that it is only affected if it has both the date stamp and number above. One but not the other does not have a problem.

The problem is, that in North America, a few AC Adaptors over heated. There has been no reported cases of this happening in Australia or NZ, but as a safety precaution SCE has decided to recall these adaptors worldwide.

A small component supplied to the manufacturer by a subcontractor (not Sony) was found to be vunerable to overheating.

If your AC adaptor is affected, you will recieve a new one free of charge by mail within 10 days of registering your details with Sony. You can do this either through the link that Bindi has provided, or by giving us a call on 1800 823 133 (Aust. FreeCall) or 0800 434 858 (NZ FreeCall)

Same here, I'm just getting it recalled cause I can, and I don't want my room to catch fire incase I'm doing a gt4 race b-spec or something.

I would have had no idea about this if I didnt see this thread either. Checked mine and yep its affected also. Has that number and the 2004.11 date on it. Thanks bindi.

Its a bit of a suprise because I only took mine off standby by unplugging it, for the first time last night (apart from when I take it places) I just saw the red light and thought I should unplug it as there is no point in having it on as barley use it now. Then just the next day I find out about this. Its a bit spooky. lol.

I think mines pretty safe too, it was once left on for 3 days accidentally by my brother and been through numerous GT4 endurance races etc, mine barely gets warm either.

Anyway i've signed up for mine too.

Not a problem guys... I like to know when something's screwed. It's really scary when it comes to cars too (brake lines fail, blah blah blah, we have to recall them, sorry!).

I am the same... it barely registered as slightly warm, although mine too is a 2004.11.

But I signed up for a newie all the same, better safe than sorry.

I did notice mine got hot quick, and was unsure whether this was normal. There are even like burn marks (discoloured) parts of the black plastic which is the outside of the adapter.

Also because we are all Playstation 2 fans in here, does anyone have a real copy of the newest GTA they want to sell? is it san andresa (or haw ever its spelt)
PM me if you got a copy you want to sell

Cheers Paul

Yeah I got mine in the mail in less than 24 hours. Applied online Thursday night, got it Friday afternoon.
Excellent service, I thought it would take at least a week.

Yeah I was surprised, I applied online and got it 1.5 days later. Posted the old one back to them (nice that we're not charged for that!).

Glad to see that you all noticed this!

Here's somewhere else you might want to look, just to be on the safe side, for anything else you may own. It's incredible, these lists on this site! http://www.recalls.gov.au/
