Default Cars you owned once and since sold them and know there worth Big Bucks.

Hi guys,
let me kick off this post. I had a CL Charger 4 speed manual 265 motor once.
It liked the petrol, only had disc/drum brakes but went like the clappers. We as in my wife and myself only had a small amount of money to pay on the Mortgage so i sold it for $10,000.

But the best one is my cousin who had an original Torana A9X and he sold his in 1995 for just about nothing.
When i see him i always remind him of it and he says' "will you shut up about the Torana and nearly starts crying" i hate seeing a grown man cry!

LX Hatchback. Sold it for 5k to buy a bloody Camira back in the late 80’s. Young family, need air conditioning... bla bla bla..
I guess the Camira did win car of the year though..

Alfa Romeo 105 GTV....Le mans blue black interior...I bought it cheap and drunk on ebay for $4k...no joke and this was only ~6 years ago.

It needed some work but was very drivable, I actually drove it from VIC to TAS as I was going to the "garage" for repairs..LOL

Anyway...we moved house and I had no space or time to restore it so I did a quick sale, popped it on gumtree for $8k and sold it in 10 mins.

I was interstate so I just wanted it done, but in hindsight I could have got double that if I waited out a bit...now have a look at the prices..and I wish I still had it

XA GS sedan, Factory 351 4 speed manual. Traded it for a Datsun 200B in the early 80's. Hard to believe now!

if I recall an XB GT would have been worth more than 30K in the early 2000s
replicas are worth more than that now.

Was a genuine XB GT never checked the numbers, but it was advertised for 12k, he would have gone to 11k but the auto put me off, was fairly tidy.. I did remember pretty well as I spoke to him a month or so later when I reconsidered and he mentioned it went for 9k or so, I got my first VK after that for 8k

The XY GT prices had kicked off at the time, they were pushing 60k plus which was dragging up the XW prices but the XB and XR's were still good buying at the time, below are some from AMCS from 2005, the boom had well and truly started by then, I'm talking more 2001

LJ Torana - I have no regrets though, mine was a well worn rust bucket when I sold it in the mid-80's.

Survivors are only worth that much because all the rest have gone for scrap and there's some silly nostalgic buggars with more money than sense.

I find these threads painful, nobody else in my family has interest in collectibles, or mechanical items other than viewing the cost balance vs immediate gratification.

Interest in history, collectibles and maybe autism has seen me hedge the cars I sold:

ED Classic GLi sedan - I liked the family bus so much and regretted trading it in, so I bought an ED XR8 Sprint. Still have.

XW Fairmont wagon - beaut, white, saddle trim that had gone greenish. I rued selling it in 1999 and vowed to replace it with better. Working around Oz I found & bought an XW GS Fairmont sedan in the early 2000s, all original, all numbers and books. I always wanted the GS options which the wagon didn't have, and liked the GS as it was a bit more nondescript when compared to the GT. Nowadays, both send people into raptures when they see them and this is a bit of a pain as I like to fly under the radar. Until very recently, the Sprint brought no attention, but now the kids are clueing up to it.

And the ones I haven't been able to replace (can't keep 'em all...)

FJ73 auto Landcruiser. Sold to upgrade to HJ60 diesel - which was a blessing really as it launched my career, working remote. But I do miss that one. I've all but given up trying to find one, and that's ok. The FJ73 was a beast on sand and I liked the auto.

VG Valiant hardtop - not really sold, read on. I bought the unlicenced wreck that 3 blokes had driven down from Darwin in about 1994, $800. I cleaned it up, tuned it up, and drove it to the farm where it became my farm adventure rocket. On a big farm, too. It was rough, green, rust roof where vinyl had worn away, front bench was wobbly, white contrast bonnet that I angle grinded and zinc covered, full of bullets and Darwin stubbies. Still faster than girlfriend of the time's WB 253! Stolen some years later - not really sold. It was a lot of fun and I don't miss it tbh, my hands are full keeping the other cars. Worth big bucks but the Mad Max experience of the coupe on the farm was priceless.

Sold my first Brock in the late ‘90s to build a house deposit. Bought another one just before Brock died and prices went stupid. This ones not bad but I prefer my first one.

VH Charger 265 manual, XA GT Hardtop (a real screamer), '66 Falcon coupe running a 250. They are the standouts but most of my other cars I see advertised for ridiculous amounts too.

LH SL/R5000 with all the L34 kit, could of been a genuine L34 but had L31 plate. 308 Block was out of a HT-G reconditioned but 650 DP std dizzy. bought it in 1991 ? traded it in 1992 for a new Mazda Bravo.
The Mazda dealer got a specialist to come out the next day out to look the car over and he was asking me was it a L34 even tho it had L34 plate on it. I said I do not have a clue, as I bought it off a young bloke that I think his dad made him sell it. it was down the Gold Coast and he had another bonnet for it with a letter box type rubbish on it, I did not want that at all.
It was white and black with 14 in white sort of wire type centres looking wheels.
Poor kid must be spewing nowadays at his dad.
I was looking at spending over $ 10,000 on that Torana to make it really fly but I seen a Kawasaki ZX10 Ninja and went with that as a rocket ship, that was a good move loved that bike, but not the Torana as the only advantage of them was that they were lighter than the GTS.

E49 Charger
XAGT Hardtop x 2
XAGS Hardtop
XAGS Wagon
XBGT
XWGT

Nearly all bought and sold before 1985, most in the late 70's when no one wanted them.

That's allot of really cool cars mentioned. It's great people had the experience of driving and owning them. They are part of Australian culture.

Toyota Trueno AE86 hatch, I paid 8 grand for it and sold it a few years later for $8500.
not so much a profit because I spend a bit Modding it.
but regardless its the only car I've ever sold for more than I paid.

if I hung onto it for another 5 years I would have gotten 30-40k for it. they maxed out around those figures

I see theres one on carsales for $34K

In 1981 I bought a June 1976 built Falcon XB GT Manual from the original owner. The car was a light metalic blue colour with silver paint outs, I can't remember the name of that colour now. It had 61,000 KM on the clock and had factory cream vinyl and brown cloth seats. Other factory fitted options were airconditioning and power steering.

It was a lovely car that really did turn some heads it its day. I sold the car in 1987 because at the time, I needed money to buy furnitue, and to set up the new house I had just built.

Like most of us, I really do regret selling that car now.

'63 GT Cortina, one of the few bought in from the UK for homologation purposes. I bought it and beat on it for a while I was building the RS for the first time and sold it to by some flash wheels.

If only I'd had the internet I'd have actually known what it was.
