First impression? I like it. They've mixed more of the traditional Zed shape into the mix as well, which I like. Admittedly the light clusters are a bit off, but I'm sure we'll get used to them in time.

Wonder how long it'll take before someone squeezes a V8 behind the rails? :P

I genuinely like it!

I really like how the C-Pillar is straight like the back of a 911.
I also love the 'Z' look of the lights front and back.

I just know the cab version is going to look like Lurch though. :V

Its okay, not too far separated from the 350Z though. Nissan needs to get away from the conservative styling and get back to where the real, legendary Z cars started eg 240Z styling cues. they lost the plot styling wise in my opinion with the 300ZX, which is still cool (not the "p-plate" legal ones though...) But its still oversized and bloated to really fall in with the Z-series history. Sorta like what happened with Mustangs in the 70's, and Thunderbirds etc. Still cool cars, but compared with the early versions, which had their weak points too, but you know what I mean? Getting too far away from where it all began. the 350Z was a step back in the right direction, but still, wouldn't hurt to push the boundaries a little more wouldn't it?

The 240Z was a sports car, the 300ZX was a bloated 4 seat coupe like a monaro not a sports car as you have stated.

The 350Z went back to its roots; minimal interior, light weight and excellent performance. In the last BFYB it matched a 317Kw GTS around winton (and was faster than several others ) even though it is fitted with a 230kw/358Nm N/A 6 cylinder.

The 370Z is slightly more powerful (245kw), has slightly better handling and possibly a DSG option and a slightly more modern interior (my 2008 model 350Z has a cassete player).

There have been a couple of new developments since our last report, the most significant of them being a V8 which could end up powering a high performance version of the Z34 which will be identifiable by a “G-nose” modified front bumper reminiscent of the S30 240Z. The G-nose will add even more 240Z flavor to the Z34 making it a kind of “new retro”, a phrase coined by Best Car to describe the mix of old and new influences

Best car interviewed Z34 Chief of Production Shinjiro Yukawa last month and he confirmed that a V8 could see the light of day in a special edition model. Yukawa mentioned he wanted to “raise the performance of the new Z” while also acknowledging the Porsche Cayman S as being the Z34’s primary contender when it hits showrooms in December this year. The Z34 will of course be powered by a VQ37HVR engine from the V36 Skyline Coupe as we mentioned in our last update, only this time power is said to be slightly lower at 340ps but with the same 38.5kg/m torque. That shouldn’t matter though as the Z34 is rumored to weigh up to 100kg less than the Z33 350Z which should give it a useful boost in performance over the current model. A 6-speed manual and 7-speed “manual mode” automatic transmissions are still on the agenda.

The suspension is expected to be double wishbones up front with a multi-link rear end with upgraded braking hardware which will include 6 and 4-pot Brembo calipers and larger disks on the Version S and ST models. The basic Fairlady Z will make do with 18 inch wheels and tires while the Version S and ST will get a slightly larger 19 inch wheel and tire package. The interior is one area where there isn’t any information at all at this point… another area which will get more retro influence perhaps?

The styling of the upcoming Z34 is said to enhance the concept and proportions of the Z33 Fairlady Z, with even more pronounced fenders than its predecessor and adding a roof line and A-pillar treatment similar to that found on the R35 GT-R. The overall effect is one that resembles the outgoing Z33 but which also blends old and new elements to create an original shape. Best Car has put together some CG images using the leaked photos from the GT 2012 meeting to give us an idea of what to expect.

The price of the Z34 Fairlady Z/370Z is expected to be between 3,700,000 - 4,700,000 yen for the V6 models and over 5,000,000 yen for the G-nose V8 high performance version.

Sorry mate, the following:

"they lost the plot styling wise in my opinion with the 300ZX.....oversized and
bloated to really fall in with the Z-series history"...

sounds like the same thing as you're saying, I definately wouldn't call it a sports car.

I am sure it is a nice car, but it doesn't appeal to me.
Looks too similar to the 350Z to me.

Great, bring it on, and get it out to my local track.

Give the GT more Nissan's to chew on.

I personally believe they (Z cars) are overrated, they ldo look good, but don't go as well as some make out.

I see the influences of the pre 80's Z's in this... I LOVE IT!
looks much better than the z's of today, although i still like them as well.

One thing I really like is how the dials both read zero vertically, looks great!

I love it, tasty sporty interior, a body you will have to look at twice, and in my personal opinion, that SIX will have a GT around the track.

Tex is going from real life experience at a track down in tassie a few weeks ago, not Motor magazine, so i wouldn't be challenging him on that.

i love it. Ive been lusting over a 350z for sometime. Already decided the 370Z will be replacing the F6.

Now how do I find a way to finish my lease early ? :

I really like it, they have done a good job of updating it while still keeping it obviously a Z. Much like they did with the progression from 240, 260 and 280.

The hard part is me telling Tori she can't have one.

I like it but too much like a 350Z, I'd get the 370 as a first buyer but if I already owned a 350Z I probably wouldn't bother.

Does anyone have the new weights? I know that it’s lighter but how much lighter? The old 350Z was a bit tubby IMO.

Re Flappist: Old 300Z being a bloated 4-seat coupe. Well the rot set in with the 280ZX, maybe even the 260Z 2+2 or the Auto 240Z’s and having 2+2 seaters only available for the local market 280’s Z30 and Z32’s didn’t help. I still like the Z32 turbo 2 seater (fixed roof). Now that the 2+2 is the Infiniti G35/G37 this has allowed the Z to get back to being a 2 seater only.

Re: 350Z’s on the track. They can be pretty quick. I’ve been for a few laps in a lightly modified very early Track model (R spec tyres, slight neg camber, exhaust, permanently disabled T/C) and he was doing easy 1:40’s at Winton. I’ve ridden in a few and they certainly seem to be very controllable with good corner speed and acceleration. The only bits where I seem to be able to beat them is under braking. Around 30K for a second hand version is a bargain. Also some of the drivers aren’t top notch – e.g. I was quicker than a 370kW 350z with an APS kit in the wet.
Given a choice between a GT and a Z for the track my money would be on the Z.
