Started a thread regarding what ford model range variants we would like to see and I really liked the suggestion of a fairmont ghia...turbo manual. Altho there is probrably no way ford would build one as a special order what about FPV? Could or would they do it and would the factory still back the warranty asuming this vehicle is new?

Can't you just option the xr6 turbo up to fairmont spec? How much different would they really be?

Lets keep the Turbo for the XR's and FPV. Also I can't see a F/mont gear with turbo and manual. Todays luxury car buyer don't want the gears to be changable!

There should be a thread about a green BA Ghia TURBO from way back.
Was an after market job. Option up the XRT with premium sound + leather & how much different would it really be apart from badges. XR would have the better kit. |

I had a turbo VL Calais 5 speed years ago, similar package. Even a manual V8 Fairmont Ghia would be nice.
Ford (and Holden) just don't care about customers enough to build special orders any more. Hell, Ford won't even build you a V8 Wagon.

Ford and FPV will not build this vehicle for you. But get a XR6 Turbo with the luxury pack and never look back.

I think I see the point being made, about the Fairmont look with the turbo.
To say go for the Typhoon or the XR is to defeat the purpose of the "Fairmont look" request. Though, keep in mind a sales person up here told me a couple of weeks ago, I could more likely get a Typhoon on the road cheaper than a fully optioned Fairmont Ghia.

Ford will never ever, ever build a Fairmont Ghia Turbo (although they did build a Ghia turbo terry). NEVER EVER. Not if it would make a billion dollars. Not if it would be a orgasmic car. NEVER EVER.
Some say it would encroach on the V8, some say on the XR6T (oh yeh, quick stop everyone buying the $45k car we are all going to buy $55k cars). Some say it would eat more Jaguar and Volvo sales. Some say it just wouldn't sell. I would perfer Fairmont Ghia Turbo.. but concidering Fairmont Ghia V8, supercharge it, put in a lsd. But this adds, what $10-$15k to a $55k car, resale goes further down the toilet and Im not even sure if anyone has done a Supercharged SOHC 5.4 BF with the 6 speed auto. Plus with ~360kw and a kerb weight of more like 1.9 tons, you would proberly want to upgrade the size of the front rotors, and this would then stuff up your DSC. Plus its all aftermarket. And fuel consumption would be even optomistically over 15L per 100. Typhoon and XR6T are not Fairmont Ghias.. At the end of the day I may just keep my money and maybe just get a I6 and tickle it a bit N/A. Headers, stainless exhaust, intake, edit. |

An LPG Terri would be nice (hit me with your rythmn stick if these exist now)
Or a factory LPG XR6T. Truly the best of both worlds. No, I don't have a thing for LPG, I drive a V8 on petrol, but I think those options would do quite well. And as mentioned the turbo Ghia (albeit remaining as auto), turbo wagon, higher spec wagons, and V8 wagon. No, I don't have a thing for wagons. But I do like them! And yes, wagon ideas aren't really required (apart from V8 wagon!) due to Territory. |

Buy a BA Ghia and call FTG and fit the turbo running gear. If you had the desire and money, you could do the same with the wagons. Buy a wagon and fit XR running gear (6, 6T or 8) or go all out and fit the Pursuit gear. It'd be interesting anyway.
Oh by the way, the wagon's days are numbered, so no, Ford won't be spending any time developing the wagon varients, Territory's too popular. A turbo Fairmont Ghia? Possibly I think, especially if they drop the LWB. Personally I'd like to see FPV throw a Boss 290 (and all the GT-P gear) into a LTD. Even if it's just a one-off 25-50 car run. Cost a packet though....

it would be a piece of pis.s for ford to do it. Its just a XR6T without the kit and different trim.
I worked there last year, I told them that it would be a hit, but people laughed. it woudl be the modern say ESP! I know it would sell, its not fu(king hard, make it limited and wella, good resale and a slight collectors car. But no, doing something that people might want to buy is apparenly to hard. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO HAVE A CAR THAT LOOKS LIKE AN XR PEOPLE :togo:

If I had the money to blow, I'd buy an xr6t in white then fit the standard ghia bumper nd the chromy bits and remove the xr kit. Its just something i'd do if i had excess cash to play with.

Some interesting posts here.....I think the point about the attractiveness of a ghia turbo was well made when it was said that some people would really go for the understated look of a turbo ghia. Also some interesting thoughts about the non preparedness of Ford to respond to the demands of the market. I would have thought the purpose of FPV was to prepare low volume performance variants of current models in the ford lineup? I wonder to what extent FPV can make decisions such as offering a turbo ghia independant from Ford? To my thinking a luxury typhoon is not what the market I am thinking of would look for......a turbo fairmont ghia would most likely tap into the BMW wanna be's. Ford do need to get more adventurous.....to take some risks....large car sales are languishing at the moment..........and like it or not on a global scale ford australia are a niche manufacturer who should have the flexibility and balls to quickly and cost effectively respond to what the market wants..whether its a fairmont ghia turbo.........a V8 territory or a Boss LTD.

I think the fairmont Ghia / fairlaine /LTD space will be a very interesting one to watch over the next 12 months with the 300C and particularly the 6l hemi version being released.
Want a large well equipped car with all the nice trim and a high performance V8? sure, no problem. Want the same thing with a diesel instead, they will be able to do that too. (Puegeot 504 Turbo diesels used to sell like hotcakes in the bush) If you take your $65K into a Chrysler dealer it buys a lot of car with well appointed features, particularly when compared with a Fairlaine. The styling of the 300 is a personal thing but you couldnt say that the Fairlaine is pretty either. Regards, Tote

Anyone remember the lady with the green Fairmont Ghia who had the XR6T donk chucked in? That was a fairly nice ride.

Ford LWB is dying. 300c may have just sealed it. Holdens new VE statesman is apparently monsterously impressive (holdens best product?) and the 300c will kill all others. Ford just doesn't have the money, Ford gets no export $'s from the LWB cars either....
There are plenty of exciting possibilities that Ford has absolutely no interest in exploring. Ford even had suitable tooling for a BA Fairmont Ghia turbo, including a new bumper that allowed approprate airflow and a intercooler. They had even done durability testing (on XT turbo taxis and a Fairmont Turbo). Never happend. All prototypes were crushed into cubes. |
