Hi Guys and Gals,
After much mind changing, and dragging her feet, my wife has FINALLY decided on her new car... In the end she decided she wanted the same as what she already has, so out goes her 2010 Honda CR-V Limited Edition that we have had since new and in will come a December 2015 Build MY17 Honda CR-V VTI-L in Gun Metal Grey (colour is called Modern Steel or some such rubbish). She is looking forward to getting it and I am as happy as I can be about her choice (I was hoping for the Jeep but the fact that her Current CR-V has given us over 5 years of faithful service with zero issues at all since new makes the pain a little less...) Anyway, long story short, the Accessories lady is trying quite hard to get us to go with the Paint/Leather/Interior Protection packages they are flogging. we want to get the paint and interior protection done by someone as it spends a lot of time parked outside at work, and at home for the next 6 months while our house is built, and the leather done as we have a son who is about to turn 2.... The product they are trying to flog us is the Fusion Package. The lady tells me the retail on the package is something like $2500. I can get the equivalent Opti-Coat Package for $1250 through someone else. The Car yard has come back saying they will do theirs for $1300 so much of a muchness... with regards to price... Has anyone had experience with this product at all? I am leaning towards the Car Yard Option, mainly because with no price difference, they can do it prior to delivery rather than try to get it done afterwards.. Any thoughts/Experiences at all of either of these products would be an awesome help. Cheers

I’m very anti the huge mark up the dealers place on these products and to qualify for any warranty work usually requires you to adhere to a very specific maintenance routine.
The first thing you need to ask them is to allow you to have the documentation listing the dos and don’ts and what you need to do as to comply for warranty and take them over to a corner and sit down and read it all. After that you may think it’s all too hard. Personally I’d find a good detailer and give them the car for a day and you’ll end up with a much better job at a far cheaper price. Plus all of these treatments are only as good as the effort you are prepared to put in afterwards to help keep the vehicle in good condition. |

Waste of money.
How long are you intending to keep the car?? If you are only keeping it for 5 or so years like the last one why bother even if it did work or do anything. I can think of a better way to spend $1300 rather than a bit of polish and interior protectant. Most cars will be fine for at least 5-10 years of sitting outside provided they are washed every 4-6 weeks and get a bit of wax once a year, and even if they are not washed they will be fine, our daily gets washed about 2-3 times a year and a last coat of wax was about 3 years ago and paint is still fine.

Privately applied quartz ceramic coating is the go. It will cost you less than the dealer stuff, no polishing, no waxing, easier to wash, the ceramic protects against scratching is UV resistant and there is an australian made version that has a lifetime warranty. My opticoat has a minimum 2 year guarantee. Opticoat and such enhance the shine of the paint. You can see my opticoated car here it was done before christmas and looking forward to many years of not polishing and waxing.

Car yard crap is that. Opti-coat applied by a pro is the best protection. Dont listen to the car yard trust me.

Dont get Fusion.. They dont have any special people to apply it. Typically just trade apprentice detailers that have no experience. If you go with opticoat atleast the person doing it will be trained and be able to prep the paint correctly prior to doing it.
Cheers.

Cheers for the comments so far all...
XB GS - We will be keeping it for 5 years.. I tend to change my car over more often but my wife isn't a "Car Person" so is happy to have it for 5 years. Smoke Pursuit - Wow, it worries me it wont be applied by someone who isn't even properly trained to do it.. Thanks for letting me know Express/99AUXR - The markup must be mental.. TO be able to discount by that much shows that... Probably only costs them a few hundred bucks to do it... FPV+fte3 - Firstly, wow, awesome little Lotus... I have a mad soft spot for these little things... That finish looks awesome, and is what im after.. Sounds like I'll be telling old love from Honda to go away and might go with Opti-Coat....

I am a car person and keep my cars long term, as I hate buying new cars as I see it as a waste money. Spend the $1300 on a week end away rather than handing to the car dealer for a coat of wax.

Daz, give me a call 0423176558 and we can have a chat about sorting out the car with Ceramic Pro 9H. Currently the worlds number 1 coating protective product. Industrially tested to back up the claims such as Chemical resistance, permanent adhesion etc. Has a great look, more so than Opti and does not require a second coat to bring up the gloss levels. I have dealt with quite a few forum members and can certainly help out with the new car and get you a better deal.

I didn't wash my old ute for 3 years and it was parked outside the whole time.....made absolutely no difference to the resale value.
Put the money to better use by taking a holiday or buying some shares or flushing it down the toilet. |

We bought a new car before Xmas, I asked the salesman if we could skip the paint protection girl and told me he would get the sack if he didn't at least take me to her office.

I wouldn't bother with the car yard paint protection crap. My sister used to be the 'paint protection girl' at a dealership, she bought a brand new car and didn't even get paint protection on her own car.
They tried to sell me it on the Ranger saying when I sell it in 10 years it will have a better resale value because the paint will look brand new. If you are buying a 10 year old 4x4 ute and expect the paint to be perfect, you will be disappointed. |

There is a difference with Ceramic Pro/Opti-coat products they last allot longer than normal waxes and literally bond to the paint very well. They provide good resistance against swirls and make the car a breeze to clean. Its the only way to go tbh.
There are some here who definitely are not as fussy as some with paint, each to their own

Opticoat and Cquattz are fantastic, literally bonds to the paint and is a super hard and shiny finish. Also if you get the wheels done they are super easy to clean.
Now the downsides: If you get a scratch, it's harder for it to get touched up. If you have a prang and a panel gets re sprayed, you then have to get the panel retreated after (list it On the insurance). My wife went through a spate of scrapes, not at fault prangs and other bits and bobs over a 6 month period - it was just another thing to deal with. |

I have got Opti Coat on the FG X XR8 and the wife's new mondeo and well worth it.
Better than the dealer stuff and cost about the same. Last longer than the dealer stuff as well. |

Definitely chat to James/RancidPunx .... his work is well regarded.
You will find though ..... a new vehicle may already have marring from the dealership ... it seems to be normal ... and may need a little correction before any coating is applied .... to ensure the new finish is the best it can.

Can highly recommend the ceramic coatings, I have opticoat pro+ on my GTF and it looks amazing still after a year and it's still doing its job perfectly.
Here are some photo's of it mid wash.

Paint protection on new cars is a great idea if you find that your bank ballance is too high and need a quick way to reduce it.
Other than that, it's a good little way for the dealer to make make easy $$$$$

LTDHO, I agree when talking dealer provided paint protection, it's not the case with the proper aftermarket ceramic coatings that the OP is inquiring about.

Opticoat or Ceramic Pro is the way to go.
I have Opticoat on the R-Spec - still looks great and that's a black car. I'm going Ceramic Pro on the Mustang - long story - but it will be good for comparison purposes. No matter how much care the dealer takes in pre-delivery, most new cars will always require some paint correction. If it's not too bad, it's usually included in the price for the coating.

New cars generally turn up with something that needs a little attention. This week I have had 2 bad cases already. Check out this brand new A4 S-Line that I saw yesterday.
Ignoring the dirty water spots, look how scratched and marred it is. Polished extremely poorly by someone at the dealership but they get away with it because most people dont know what they are looking at. The owner just thought it was dirty and that a wash would clean it up. This is how it should look I polished it all correctly and then applied Ceramic Pro 9H to keep it looking great but also protected.

My sister used to sell the add-on packages for new cars at Kloster Ford and she was paid on sales commission. She didn't know one end of car from the other but managed to con plenty of people in wasting their money on such.

Glorified polish. Expensive glorified polish. I use Maguiars on my others halfs MPS for the paint and leather and the paint is like a mirror and the leather as soft as when she bought it.

A little update on this... Apparently this "Ming Mole" or "Fusion Flirt" as I have taken to calling her has contacted my wife (car is in both names so at face value that's ok) and has convinced her that Fusion is the way to go and, what I think, conned her into saying "Yes please, we want the Fusion Protection Package done". Im more than a little annoyed, whilst she hasn't don't anything wrong legally, ethically its extremely screwed up after I told her Id be making the call... By the time I heard about all this happening it was too late, its already been added to the contract and she had the company already starting to apply the product..
Not very happy about it to be honest, but it is what it is.... I've given the Wife a mouthful to which I was told "Oh well, It sounded like a good deal/product".. Thanks for all your posts/help guys.. Now that we are paying for this **** to be done I wont get it done again.. Rancidpunx - I'll be contacting you about a quote to do my Mazda 6 in the next week or so. Cheers Again all!!

How long since you signed the contract? Isnt there a cool down clause or something? Id be having a 'talk' with senior management about this 'offer and mentioning Consumer Affairs dept or what your gov calls it.
Surely this has to be signed for on the contract, dont let flossie have her way with you or your wife.
