Does Steve have a car?

I've taken the initiative of starting my new boot install while the rest of my car is getting it's final touches before it's ready for spraying. Many designs have been thought up and suggested, but a final decision was made with an equal compromise on asthetic looks, simplicity of the design and overall functionality.
Step 1: Mounting the batteries... The idea of placing the batteries in the origional fuel tank location has been scrapped. Basically, i still want to run twin exhausts, and the only way was to find a different location for the batteries. Hence, my solution (or rather my mates solution). Although it may not look like it, it was a VERY tight squeeze to get the batteries in. The stands have also been strengthened with L brackets and bolted securely to the car. These batteries weigh over 20kg each so i'm not taking any risks. The batteries are yet to be secured into place, but this is a simple task of bolting it to the back wall of the boot. I will also be making battery boxes for them which will be sealed and externally vented though the origional fuel pump access hole. Hears a quick diagram that'll help explain it... You will also notice the amp rack that has been dummied in place, but more on those when they a closer to completion. Comments, critisisms???

The car - NFI The install - Shouldn't be too long. Difference between this and the rest of the car is that i don't haveto rely on anybody to do anything for me, which is why the car is taking forever. I've learnt by now not to give an ETA on anything that i do. I "hope" to get it done in about 2-3 weeks tho, so just apply the rule of three (ie 6-9weeks) :P

How come your going for four Amps? 2 nice mono blocks is enough to power dual voice coil 10's easy, and surely you only need a 4 channel for speakers....Whats the 4th amp going to be for?

Carsik - As EF Frmnt said, they can be installed however you like.
Jesse06 - Hehe, their is only one monoblock powering the subs ;). I have a 2 channel and a 4 channel to run the front splits. They are 3 way's and will be run fully active off these amps, the 2 channel running the woofers, and the 4 channel will be running the mids and tweeters. The last amp is being used to run the back speakers. While an amp is not necessary for rear fill, in my case it was the only way i could run them as my HU does not have an internal amplifier (plus it makes the boot install look a little more even) Two amps are being installed into a false floor as the first picture shows, while their will be two more amps running along either side of the boot. The subs will be mounted side by side in the spare wheel well incase you weren't sure. I suppose i haven't posted anything about this in a while so i'll list what gear is being used... Alpine CDA-7998r HU Focal 165w3 focal utopia splits (front stage) Morel supremo tweeters (will be purchased shortly) Hertz Hcx 165 co-axils (rear fill) 2 x 10 inch hertz HX subs 2 x Audison Lrx 2.500 2 channel amps (for front woofers and rear fill) 1 x Audison Lrx 4.300 (for front mids and tweets) 1 x Audison Lrx 1.400 monoblock (subs, duh) 2 x Optima yellow tops 1.5 farad stinger capacitor

Looking good Steve. Mmm Audison.
But I didn't think Optima batteries (and similar) needed external venting? And are two of them really necessary? Keep us posted.

arent those sealed batteries, that don't vent gasses when charging, so you don't need venting pipes, or even boxes around the batteries... just make sure they are mounted properly

They wont normally vent gas, but there is a safety mechanism on them that alows gas to escape if there is ever an internal fault. You can see the two grey vents on top of the battery. In the eyes of the law, you haveto completely seal and vent the battery, no matter what type. (well according to vic roads anyway)
BOOSTEDEF - The finish will be done in black vinyl with woodgrain highlights...

Nice work, and after adding all that gear to it you may have to rethink the power mods to the car itself, going to be adding a fair bit of weight in there ;p

Looks really good Steve, can't wait to see the finished result.
Have you thought about converting to BA Falcon boot hinges while you're at it? It doen't look very hard to do (Compared to some of the things you've done to the car), and the hinges don't go into the actual boot space at all.

Youd want them sealed up anyway, theres always a chance of a gas leak, and a loose terminal can and will spark, which is the last thing you'll want.
