Hello People.
How does one distinguish a genuine 'GT x-flow motor'? Is it as simple as the block number? if not, what number(s) would someone need to positively identify the motor? My mate has his eyes on a block. Can any one help us out? Or point us in the right direction? |

Not positive on the GT's, but mk2-71GTL sounds on the money, as for general 1600 block ids 711M is the thick wall casing and AA at the end is 1300 while BA is 1600

I'm pretty sure most of the work on the GT motors is in the head anyway. The GTs had the 711M block, but so did all the later Mk 2 Escort x-flows. I have a GT engine in my Escort van "supposeably" out of a Mk 2 GT Cortina. It make sense, as the gearbox attached is the close ratio one out of a Capri (with cable clutch.) The Engine number starts with V89.

thanks,
I'll check out some numbers once they clean it up. I've been told not to worry coz you can actually mod these heads to exceed GT spec. If, it's not already obvious, yep i'm a newby...to all this.. |
