Odd one here, asking for a friend (who made it my problem this afternoon)!
Door won’t latch, I removed the mechanism to eliminate cable issues etc, can’t make it latch in my hand. It feels like the quadrant pawl is not engaging. No signs of breakage inside the cover, or forced entry attempts. Is the rear lock interchangeable (it would be cheaper as a used part)? Is it something where you only go genuine? I note it’s made in Mexico, so presume there’s a cross to some US vehicle. Advice appreciated, thanks. |

I've got the VE WSM if you need schematics or the remove/install instructions.
The actuators are position sensitive - in other words there are different part numbers for both RH & LH as well as front and rear. Part number for the passenger front lock and actuator assembly is 414003210613 (I think) but they are around $200. They are far from unique to Commodore having been used in just about every US Chev based model during the last 20 years.

Cheers, as the bloke is a professional carer we will throw in a used one this morning to get him on the road but fully expect it won’t last.
Dissembly to investigate wasn’t too bad, less tricky than a Falcon. Probably a <5 minute job once you’ve done it before. |

"Made in Mexico"? Surely you're mistaken. This is an ALL AUSTRALIAN car you speak about.

Its a common thing, I used to wreck VE's from home when they were new as there were no parts available, (was worth more to wreck them than fix them) I used to sell the mechs from the doors even back then, used to sell the painted handles to the US as they got chrome ones and hated them lol

If you have the GM part number you can try rock auto and see how much a new one is, price is usually better than a dealership here.

That’s a good hint, but I’m stuck on finding a US model that uses it, or a working part number.
I noticed several prospective donors at Nick-a-Part were missing this lock, so evidently it is not that durable. |

I had a quick look earlier at pontiac G8 on rock auto, which is a VE, 3 different door locks came up with 3 different part #'s ..all but front left.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...or+latch,10748 https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...actuator,13257 It was 2009 Pontiac G8 I looked up, using the menu on the LHS. |
