Thankyou to everyone. I wasn't expecting a thread on Jessica's birth, I actually accidentally stumbled accross it lol. Thanks Whoosh & E :

I went into hospital on Friday 11th at 7.30am and had Jessica at 1.52am Saturday morning. It was an extremely difficult labour but easy birth. Difficult labour because I had decided to go without any pain relief up until the last hour. It all just became unbearable but I reckon I did ok to get to the point I did without any gas or drugs. Mark was by my side every step of the way. I don't think I could have made it through it all as well as I did without him there.

Jessica was born 5˝ weeks early and has been in an Isolette in the Special Care Unit at the hospital since birth. It's hard to think of her as a prem baby because she weighed 6pd 14oz! - about the size of most full term babies. Can you imagine how big she would have been had she arrived when due lol.

She initially had some breathing difficulty due to her lungs being under developed, her sugar levels were VERY low and she has a high level of jaundice but she is improving with each day and is a very happy baby

The most difficult part of all this is that I'm home and she's still in the SCU. But we're trying to go in as much as possible to feed her and bond with her. I'm heading there in approx 2˝ hrs to feed her again and cuddle for a while.

We'll post pictures up soon. Thanks again to everyone :

Congrats guys & Jessica

Dont fret about her being that early, my youngest was 5weeks5days early and weighed 5lb7 .... Jessica is a thumper for her age ;) My boy is now 14, taller than me (not that hard) and the most active kid known to mankind.

I do understand your pain in not having her home with you. Is she suckling or tube fed. That was the hardest thing for me .... the tube just seemed cruel even though it was a life saving thing.

Cant wait to see the piccys

She did have a tube but they've taken that out now and she's out of the Isolette. No more nakedness lol, she's in pretty girly pink clothes and feeding brilliantly from the bottle. She has both formula and breastmilk. She's such an alert child and curious. She's constantly turning her head to look at everything and everyone. The paediatrician and others have questioned her true gestation because she's acomplished things that are not seen before the 36/37 week mark so you can imagine how happy we are with her progress

An appt with the maternal health nurse has been booked tentatively for next Thursday because they are looking at letting her come home on Tuesday. So all is well. I'm still a little worried ofcourse but staying positive.

Time to hit the hay. I've just got back from her 3am feed. Mark & I went to do her 12am feed and I haven't slept since then so I'm exhausted!

Congratulations guys and welcome to the world Jessica.
Glad all is going well and bubby will be home with you real soon.

You were braver than me for waiting so long without pain relief, my daughter was born after a hard 2 hours and 48 minutes and I can honestly say I was sucking that happy gas throughout majority of that time.

Well done

Believe me I thought about that gas for hours. Actually, there were two thoughts on my mind. 1) Someone kill me now! LOL and 2) GAS!!!!!!! Obviously, I went with the second thought lol. I kept thinking, this will end eventually. Time won't stop, just breath through it and it'll all be over soon but then came that one contraction where it felt like someone was ripping apart my insides lol and that was it for me! I felt a little disappointed with myself though because it was only 52 minutes later that she was born and I thought, I could have made it but ahh well lol.

Don't feel disappointed in yourself, most women know that awful pain and honestly I take my hat off to you (so to speak) that you did it for so long without gas. Be very proud of yourself as birth is certainly no picnic and your little angel is thriving, that is all that matters.

I have looked around to see if you can get FORD stuff in pink... can't seem to find any funnily enough

She is absolutely gorgeous, job well done. Time to remember to look after yourself as well and enjoy watching the little one grow.

I don't need to give her the FORD talk as she was already glowing blue when she was born

Slackers! :

Anyway, a bit of an update: Went to the hospital tonight & found that Jessica's had the feeding tube put back in. She's just become a little too lethargic (spelling) to feed from the bottle. More interested in gazing & sleeping lol. Nurse said it's normal for a prem at her gestation to be like this (up's & down's with feeding) and that it should pass within a couple of days or so. Bit stressed about it but hopefully she'll be fine.

Thats great news about the birth of little Jessica! We hope she is feeding better soon though, she does sound very strong and healthy, so she will be fine. She looks adorable from the pics!

Take care and enjoy her, and before you know it she will be eating more than you ever thought possible! Hehe.

Dont fret too much about the relapse in the feeding. This happened quiet frequently with Zac. It is frustrating and scary but these tough little buggers seem only to do this to keep us on our toes. Its a continual thing through their lives :P

When I finally got Zac home I had to set the alarm for every two hours 24hrs a day to feed him as he was the same, sleepy and lethargic. Was great fun :S .... but we survived as we all do and that was only for a few weeks ......waking a sleeping baby just didn't seem right ;)

Give her a big cuddle for us and keep updating us too. Know that there are a lot of us out here with practice with these precious little ones. If you ever need a chat about it all send me a PM.

Thankyou. Always helps to know someone's willing to lend an ear if needed.

Must admit, things are a bit overwhelming at the moment. It's very hard emotionally especially with me here and her there. Also doesn't help when you're made to feel like an idiot when it comes to your own child but that's another story :
