'Fiat-Chrysler’s hot rod division, Mopar, now delivers huge horsepower in a box.
The company confirmed that a version of its ‘Hellcat’ engine, a 527kW 6.2-litre supercharged V8, will now be available for anyone to buy in a crate. Mopar made the announcement at the 2017 SEMA show, a specialty equipment and aftermarket expo held annually in Las Vegas. The ‘Hellcrate’ kit is a ‘plug and play’ system and includes the engine as well as the powertrain control module, power distribution centre, wiring harness, oxygen sensors as well as an accelerator pedal. “Never before has a supercharged, factory-direct 707-horsepower crate engine kit been offered, and we are proud to be the first to deliver a solution enthusiasts have demanded,” said Pietro Gorlier, head of Mopar. “This ultimate powertrain option fits the needs of owners and fans who demand iconic performance.” In the US the Hellcrate kit costs US$19,530 and are covered by a three-year warranty. Fiat Chrysler Australia is currently investigating the possibility of offering the Hellcrate locally.
