Hi,
I have a suggestion...A Nice one I hope I had a thought today when taking apart my engine. Would it be possible to have a definition/index of common terms that relate to things on the forum or to cars in general? For instance, Honing: Common definition would be? 4v: Common definition? Dizzy etc...I could go on. The one that got me today was Firing order. I had no idea what it was until I looked it up. I know it sounds funny, but when you are a novice, understanding the correct terms helps so much! There are a lot of users that do not know what certain terminology is correct for what they are looking for. Is it a good idea? Can something like this be created and would anyone else use it? Cheers Col

I like the idea!
Reading alot of the threads on here I find myself having to look things up, otherwise I have no idea what is being discussed. Obviously, doing a search helps, but to have definitions for the various terms readily available would be extremely useful.

The Tech Portal has an encyclopaedia module that we aren't using but it isn't very well integrated with the forum itself. re are a couple of glossary style add ons for vb3.5 so we might try one of them. At best it looks as if they are only integrated into the navbar rather than hyper-linking the text.
There are also a couple of keyword redirectors that hyperlink keywords to another URL and I suspect that might be a better way of dealing with it with the redirect to either a tech article (like the Ford acronyms one we currently have) or to the portal encyclopaedia. Cheers Russ

wouldn't it be possible, russ, to have a hyperlink that brings up a small amount of info when hovered over and then more when you actually click on it?

cost's money but looks like it would do the trick... though looks like you would need to upgrade to vBulletin 3.7 (i have no idea how difficult or easy that is)

It's not perfect but if you hover your mouse over the expression in post 4 that is green and underlined you will see what I have implemented.
Cheers Russ

I've added a few more (as you can see in the first post) and am also gradually adding the common items from the acronyms technical reference.
Suggestions for other things to add are welcome. Cheers Russ

Could you add ICC and ECU please Russ? I am always looking for what they stand for.
Thank you for implementing this so quickly! One very pleased member here Now I will be able to understand things a little better and not feel like a noob! (As my son says.) Edit: I see that ICC was already added.

One little issue Russ.
I have noticed that one word is highlighting in sentences. Example: I asked him to look at it for me. Maybe him needs to be excluded?

HIM is gone given it is too close to him and the system isn't case sensitive.
I will add ECU. Cheers Russ

Is there a way to make it 'not' bright green? If at all possible?

Thanks for the laugh Michael. Very good.
I think Red is a good choice Russ. Stands out and when you search, words are highlighted in red so it kind of links it all together. Cheers Col

Russ any word can be added yes?
I was thinking maybe you could put in OP. It took me ages to work out what that was. I know it is a forum shortcut but it would be good to add it. I suppose then you may have to add in IMHO and FTW. Perhaps not such a good idea then...
