If I was building my ED all over again.................
Tough auto. It'll last longer than a T5, and it suits lazy sods like me Also, stallie + shift kit = fun |

Look at all these lazy buggers! $2500 sounds a bit steep for a T5 conversion, as the parts are only about $500, and I can't see labor being that much! An auto might have the potential to go faster but I've found the manual 'feels' faster. I love the manual in my car. I grew up driving manuals, and gave an auto a chance. After about 4 years of owning an auto, I'd had enough. I've always felt more in control of a manual, which is why I did it.

get a good auto and sit back and laugh at the manuals when they go backwards putting their foot on the clutch, whilst the auto just keeps going forward. :

All Drag Cars - Auto
V8 Super Cars, Rally Cars etc - Manual You already have a 3,000 stall...... Just make sure your cam is matched to when your stall comes in and you will then have the fastest combination |

Personally, I prefer manual, it feels harder imo but my big reason for manual is the FUN!

2.5k is way steep.
An EF conversion setup is under 1k these days, so no way is there $1500 in labour. |

I'd stick with the auto and build it up. More potential.

cant believe the people in here saying autos are faster!! or better... i converted my ef to manual 3 months ago, i wish i did it sooner, it certainly is faster, more enjoyable, sounds better, and makes more power..fact is autos are boring, i had one and it was 5hit. unless ur planning on going forced induction...manual every time.

I agree mate id much prefer a manual in my TE but i didnt get a choice. My old XR6 was a 5sp i miss it. Manuals are heaps more involving to drive.

I've got a 2500-3000rpm stallie, shift kit and a ba SSS tiptronic shifter in my ef xr6 and in my situation it was a much better choice than a five speed. EF xr6 Manual ecu's are not cheap, than add the rest of the conversion on top of that price. I was a manual lover, but after this set up i'm glad i kept the auto. Its fool proof with take off's and gear changing is a lot quicker than you could ever move a stick. The ba SSS shifter is more **** factor than any thing but still makes it a lot easier to manually select gears for people who like control of their car.
If you just want to go fast, keep the auto and the stallie, and get yourself a shift kit if you don't already have one. BTW do you mind if ask what stall speed the JMM stallie actually stalls up to on your set up. Benny mac

my auto reved out to 90kms, now redlines 90 in second, its a no brainer really, its the takeoff that kills standard auto falcons, with the manual its fixed this problem. havent taken down the quarter though, it certainly feels faster though. ive read b4 that with manual its about .3 ssecs faster over 400m, compared to a standard auto.

ok lets say this. is an auto that is fully worked (stally, shift kit etc,) going to be faster than a fully worked (not sure of the possible mods) manual?

Here is the issue with a manual - ITS MANUAL You have to MANUALLY stall it up, (you can get this wrong - burn the clutch) You have to MANUALLY change the gears, (you can miss a gear) You have to MANUALLY make sure you change the gears at the correct max power/max rpm - its MANUAL If you want fun the put a manual valve body in your Auto so you have to change gears - benefit of this - NO CLUTCH - you will have the perfect stall everytime There is no ifs and no buts, if your Auto is done right then the Auto will be faster..... Funner is not FASTER and thats the question here i thought? If you want to compare a Stock Auto with a Stock Manual then yeah maybe STOCK manual is faster as you can Manually Stall it up to the correct rpm, but add a High Stall to that stock Auto and you will then always see the stock Manual guys in your dust Last edited by Sorted; 27-05-2008 at 12:49 PM. |
