Default Maf

I have a KQ 1.8 auto, when you unplug the maf should engine stall? my au stalls but the laser keeps running and is there some way of testing the maf?

I just fixed my daughters KN about a year ago the MAF can be unplugged the KN had bad a miss in the engine i unplugged it the car run better so i bought a new one and it fixed the problem they are expensive to replace last week-end she turned up with the same problem the miss was back but on inspection i found the hose between the Air box & the Throttle body had a split on the underneath i duck taped it up until i could get to the wreckers to find a replacment
