Ford Everest sets new sales record in April

The Ford Everest has set a new record, with 2400 of the large SUVs finding homes in April 2024.

According to VFACTS data released today by the Federal Chamber for Automotive Industries (FCAI) there were 2400 Everests delivered by Ford last month, up from 677 at the same time in 2023 and 2264 in March this year.

The result occurred despite increased competition in the segment, with the newcomer Tank 500 outselling the Toyota LandCruiser Prado.

April’s stellar result means the Everest has soared past the Isuzu MU-X as leader of the large SUV segment, taking a 24.4 per cent slice of the pie compared to the Isuzu’s 19 per cent with 1876 cars delivered.

At this time last year, the Ford only had a 9.2 per cent share of the segment, trailing behind the MU-X at 14.9 per cent, Kia Sorento on 11.1 per cent, Toyota Prado on 10.4 per cent and Subaru Outback with 10.2 per cent.

So far in 2024 the Everest is also just leading the way among its competitors, with 6899 vehicles delivered in the first four months of the year (16.7 per cent), compared to the MU-X’s 6730 (16.3 per cent).


The model’s popularity comes despite some recent specification changes to the line-up, and that of its sibling the Ford Ranger ute, which involved several key features being removed, while some other new equipment was added for the MY24.5 update in March.

While the additions were previously reported in January 2024, Ford has confirmed to Drive that the under-bumper kick sensor for the power tailgate has been removed across the line-up, while the Ambiente, Trend, and Sport variants all lose automatic high-beam – leaving it only on the top-spec Platinum grade.

Wow, combined sales of Ranger and Everest were 7,969 or just under 8,000 sales.
That alone is more than third place Mazda with 7,301.

How ironic that Mazda’s sales come from “everything else” that Ford can’t supply,
what a shame Mazda wouldn’t supply Ford with rebadged versions of popular models..

I’m curious to know what is happening at Toyota, Hilux sales have dropped back
while RAV4 soars to top of sales……whatever, Toyota always seems to have the
right vehicles at the right time.

Probably a case of Toyota trying to get more Rav customers orders delivered...when delivery times blow out so far issues like model upgrades or even major upgrades, price increases etc..becomes a real headache as a customer's order overlaps these changes.

Thanks, I have to keep remembering that sales numbers are now what is being delivered by manufacturers,
there’s probably loads of forward orders and ship timings can really skew the numbers we see.

For me the up tick in Ranger and Everest are everything I’ve been hoping for but I got myself in
a dark place, someone convinced me that the T6 team was being wrapped up in Australia,
now I know that’s all BS, I’m excited by the fact that future products won’t be just minor refreshes….

I think the fact that manufacturers are offering discounts again says it all. There was no discounting 12 months ago.

Then an explosion in the foundry in the supplier factory that makes front end components. Then down for a few days because a back end IT server ran out of disk space. It looks like the supply tap is a bit more open now.

To Toyota's credit, the RAV4 is a good car for the market segment that it is targeting. It has an efficient drivetrain and, for once, Toyota have delivered a vehicle with reasonable roadholding (again, reasonable for its targeted market segment).

I think Toyota would sell a lot more RAV4 if people weren't put off by the very long wait.

Think there is still shipping issues. If you ask different dealers the wait times are everywhere (I'm under the impression that rav 4 is quoted at a 18 month wait). You would think by the end of the year this should even put when you have these high delivery numbers for vehicles that only last for the month.

Ford getting their own ship was a good idea. It's probably getting orders easier (from fleets) that they might not have to compete as hard for.

Looking at the top 10 vehicle sales last month, it’s interesting how quickly the sales
drop from plus 5,000 to under 2,000. I guess it shows how much variety we have
even with a ~92,000 monthly market.

Ford Ute - look at the sales split between Ranger and Everest

7969 between those two and the rest of the numbers split between everything else they sell, with the F150 making a few hundred in there no doubt.

I reckon at this point they should just drop the rest of the range, focus on both Ranger/Everest twins + commercial vehicles and then offer more options on the Ranger/Everest platform.

If they're not going to bother with the rest of the range, then cull it and put more money into what they do want to sell.

Street version of the Raptor that ditches the off road focused stuff and picks up 18-20" wheels, slammed, Michelin Pilot Sport SUV tyres, suspension tuned by the boffins at shockworks etc.

2.3L Ecoboost added to range, and also the hybrid variant of this too.

Just cover so much ground and be the Toyota of commercial vehicles.

You want a ute, we'll make a ute anyone wants.

Something that appeals to me with the current Ranger is how its got stuff for upfitters/second stage manufacturers, customer connection points/aux switches overhead, that shit is the tits for the obligatory work vehicle accessories. It takes out the need for someone like me to hack into the factory loom to get triggers and stuff, run wires through the firewall which is a pain in the vagina on modern cars.

Parterships with joints like ARB so customers can collect their vehicle from the dealership completely kitted out how they want ready to go from day 1.

I just dislike small diesel engines, the other 90% of it is peak commercial vehicle as a single cab ute.

If I was a fleet manager, my crew would be getting around in current gen Rangers or Isuzu N series if we needed something a bit more robust than Thailand Specials.

Most, if not all the T6 development team is gone and disbanded..
Whatever vehicles we have now is it except for a possible future hybrid/PHEV option.

And yes, I would agree that filling out the range with more options would grow sales
it’s annoying that Ford didn’t offer the 2.3 EB as an option on the Ranger and Everest
as they are options available overseas…

It’s also annoying that Ford never considered a RHD development of the smaller Maverick pickup
Internal dimensions are close to Ranger in a FWD or AWD package that’s way more fuel efficient

Sorry, missed this one.
Keep in mind that VW paid Ford to provide this option but limited to ~$80K Adventura

Ford has done a great job with diesel Ranger and Everest, Ranger Raptor too and because of that,
I defer to their judgement on what they will and won’t add to the Aussie range. Nice to have
has never worked as a business case but I’m hoping there’s a way to slip a few EBs into the range..

I think Toyota would sell a lot more RAV4 if people weren't put off by the very long wait.
Its real popular amongst 30-something women for some reason

I can't believe the price rises on the Jimny, was wicked at $25K, at $40K you have to have rocks in your head to be buying one of those I reckon

But these days $60K is the new $30K.

Given you can get new Kei trucks at around $25K you'd be better off going one of those if you want some cutesy mini 4x4.
