? assuming you mean you have to log on each time you visit? if so it's a problem on your end (cookies being blocked?).

I haven't had to log on again here for years.

Well it probably deleted the cookies if you didn't clear your browser history. You can set it to do this or not to do this. The web server can't validate a cookie that doesn't exist hence the problem.

It's been months since I've had to log in, and that's only usually a result of having cleared my cookies.

Also, this thread should be in the site support section.

A cookie is a token given to your computer by the webserver. It contains information. The web server will ask for the cookie back and if you have the right one it can be used to identify you, ie keep you logged in.

You can tell your browser to block cookies in the settings. That is probably what has happened to you here.

I haven't had to log in for ages, simply tick the box that says "keep me logged in" or something similar and you'll be fine until you clear your cookies.

As others have said, just tick the little remember me box when you login and it will keep you logged in until you clear your cache.

I don't check off that little box when I log in. But I'm wondering how long do I have before I get logged out for inactivity? This happens when I'm PMing another user, posting, or step away. Maybe I'm taking too long to get back here?

If the little box is checked, it keeps you logged in.

If you leave the "remember me" box unchecked, it times you out after 20mins I think it is?

Cheers

20 min? I guess because I'm doing something, it feels shorter than that.

If I tick that box (keep me signed in) and I log off when I'm done, the next time I want to log back in I don't have to? Then how would I log out when I change my mind and want to log out, say it's the end of the day?

I keep the check box checked all the time and never have a problem

I just had a look and when I close the browser it logs me out and every time I reopen the browser ( in aff ) i am logged in ready to go

and it keeps you logged in as long as you have the browser open

hope that helps

Jason

If you are on a shared PC...I would advise that you always LOG OUT when you are done at the end of the day. The logout button is at the top and bottom of the forum pages.

If you are going to have AFF opened for an extended period but the window minimised, or just sitting open, to stop it logging you off or timing out, click the remember me box when you log in.

On my laptop, I signed in and clicked the remember me box and then saved it in my favourites shortcuts. Now I never have to sign back in. I just click the fav tab and up it pops...all signed in and ready to go.

The only time I do need to sign back in is when I run CCleaner once a week to clear out those dreaded cookies...

Hope that all clears things up a little.

Cheers
Col

if you are running IE in the tools tab,

click on the internet options tab.
then check that the delete browsing history on exit tab is not ticked.

next, in the browsing history tab, select delete (to delete cookies),
the delete options will then come up,
at the top of the options box, you can select preserve favorite website settings.
this will save your cookies for that site, login and passwords are not deleted.

so when you go back to that site there is no need to login each time.
even if you regularly clear your cookies etc.

cheers, craig

Thanks everyone, for all of your help in understanding this. Now it's more clear and just like Geez Louise suggested, I'll be logging out at the end of the day.

Thanks again!
