Ford I may be at heart but that surprised me I thought the Redline would have it going by the claimed times for the LS3 powered SS

I just don't get these comparisons, why do the continue to compare a 2 door sport car v family sedan.
Why are these the same class of vehicle. |

Yeah not a bad performance from the garden variety 5.0 GT version. Much impressed.

Looks like Wheels is just killing time until they get their hands on a couple of sprints.

That doesn’t surprise me at all.
This is want I said when I test drove the Redline sedan for a couple of days late last year in post 131 of Final Commodore LS3 304kw 570nm thread. Quote:

Why not? Who gives a rats about different 'classes'... Fact is, if your looking for a v8 unless your a one eyed brand snob then you would look at both.

If you ask me I recon the fellow driving the Holden was being paid by Ford, that’s the only logical conclusion I can come up with.

I wouldn't consider a Holden full stop.

Same could be said if they did a Stang v Sprint test...I like these comparisons, both V8, both RWD, both similar in size so why not. The segment is too small to have an apple vs apple comparison.

Yesterday I parked my Redline Ute a couple of bays away from a black Mustang in the empty carpark behind our local shopping strip.
It was a beautiful car and I did have a smile on my face when I saw the driver was probably older than my great grandfather. When I got out I said to him through the window how nice it looked and he totally ignored me, he must have thought I said, give me all your money. When I came back with the bread and scones he was outside the car with a woman who I’m guessing was his wife and she was taking photos of my Ute. I said if I knew there was going to be a photo shoot I would have washed her and all he said was, “where did you buy those wheels?” I told him and said what a stunner the Mustang was and he said thank you and they got back in their car. Strange because if it had been mine I would have spent the next hour talking about it to anyone interested in listening. And wow didn’t it look big next to my little Ute. Anyway that black Mustang sitting next to my Redline in the carpark did look much faster and that will probably be the closest I’ll ever get to experience its power. |

So let me get this straight, Wheels wont test the XR8 Sprint against the SS-V but they will test it against the Mustang?
I want to see the XR8 Sprint against the SS-V which is its true competitor, not the HSV |

Mustang would be 2-3 tenths quicker also if we had the US spec exhaust.

Wow- the Mustang seemed to beat the SS-V by a much greater margin than the comparison I have seen between the FGX-XR8 (auto) and the SS-V (manual).
On the basis of that you would think the Mustang would flog the FGX XR8, is it "doctored" video jiggery pockery.....

I don't need back seats, I'll take the Mustang!
I'd actually like to see the Mustang up against an XR8 Sprint. Who cares about the commodore? |

I also don't get the point of the direct comparison....
However I think the Australian motoring journalists should as a tribute to Holden/Ford do a 1000m drag race similar to the one below... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjLJ6i8iYJc Lineup could be something like this: - Holden Comodore SV6 - Holden Commodore SS - Holden Commodore SSVR - HSV Clubsport LSA - HSV GTS LSA - Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint - Ford Falcon XR6T Sprint - Ford Mustang GT - Ford Falcon XR8 - Ford Falcon XR6T - Ford Falcon XR6 Would be cool to the the GTS and Sprints go head to head over 1000m

I thought it rather obvious no Holden is going to keep up with any Sprint and frankly only HSV's best is going to be some form of competition....even Ford's engineers said HSV was the benchmark for Sprints.

I'd say part of the gap between them would be due to reaction time, as 13.2 vs 13.4 is certainly not 3 or 4 car lengths that we see in the video. Lots of wheelspin from at least one of them too and only 3km/h between them at the end, so they're closer than the video might suggest. Regardless, both are pretty slow, boosted Falcons still own the drag strip.
