Hi,
I need help trying to solve a high fuel consumption problem on a 1999 6 Cyl AU1 Fairmont. Driving is usually in the city with short trips and it's averaging 21L/100. It's usually driven gently. I've tried 98 or 91 petrol and econ mode with little difference The car drives and runs smoothly. There is a petrol\strong exhaust smell when car is cold on start up. Only modifications are\were a K&N filter and an XR6 intake scoop The following have been replaced in recent months Center and rear mufflers (due to corrosion) new standard Air filter (was a K&N) Coolant Temp sensor 6x new fuel injectors new fuel pressure regulator new inlet manifold gasket (leak was found) new oxygen sensor new idle control valve Fuel filter was checked. Last replaced 2 years ago spark plugs are about 5 years old The car is in mint condition with low KMs and doesn't do more that 5k per year what are the next steps? Thanks |

Possibly a partially blocked cat converter and I would replace those spark plugs unless they are iridium or platinum plugs
