Hey guys, this may seem a bit strange, But due to some recent circumstances, my .22 calibre rifle has become homeless. At the moment i have it on hold at the croydon police station until i find storage. But they are unable to hold it much longer.
I was wondering does anybody have a gun safe, and will be willing to hold onto it for about 1 month. i can be contacted via here/pm/ or on 0431-018-817. Melbourne area only. Other wise ill be forced to sell it, or just hand it in. cheers scott

We have one in the shed holding 3 guns, which is alarmed among other things. And one in the house, you have to go through the house to get to the shed so i dont like their chances...

Not to mention the risks associated with storing someone elses firearms...

Any licensed dealer should be able to store it for you in their safe.

I would say the risk, is on the guy who's firearm it is, You wouldn't want to go leaving it with a complete stranger.
How is it Homeless, do you not have a house to store it in or just no safe??? If it were me and i didn't want to sell it or couldn't find storage, Take out the Bolt and leave it in the car then rap the rifle up in canvas and stick it in the Ceiling of ya house till you can get a safe sorted out, it's not in line with the law but nobody is going to find it either. I remember before the 97 gun laws, the old man's semi auto used to live in the back of his wardrobe in a canvas bag, Granddads 32 cal Winchester sat in the study behind the bookshelf, it was never a big deal. Cheers. Last edited by Green X; 03-08-2007 at 10:46 PM. |

I remember when I had a Lee Enfield 303, a Brno 30-06 and a Mini 14 carbine across the back window of my ute, parked an Anytown Australia. Thats the Australia I miss.
Added, no guns for me now, its a hassel I can do without. Last edited by JG66ME; 03-08-2007 at 10:48 PM. |

thanks for the suggestions guys, The only reason why im in a bad spot is because they tried to organise a "random" storage check. They phoned me to organise one, but thats a little difficult, as i no longer have a gun safe. Thats why i have the cop shop holding it for me.

Are there any gun clubs that are over your side of town? Perhaps one of them may be able to help you out.

Boronia Firearms are pretty good usually, they are located in Dorset Road, almost opposite the Zagames...
Lilydale has a gun club as well you could speak to them.

As I said before, if you're willing to part with a small sum of money each month (like $20), get a dealer to keep it at his store until you get a suitable safe. Most dealers offer this service for the exact situation you're in. If the police ask to see it, just explain the circumstances and refer them to the dealer.

One of the guys I know in the local SSAA back home had his safe checked for all his long arms. The police checked the safe was up to regulations and matched all the serial numbers with the firearms register, and went that's all good. But when he asked if they wanted to see his concealables as well, they went pistols? What pistols? That's not on the list we have here, you've got a safe, don't worry about it (despite the fact concealables require a lot more stringent storage). But if you don't have a safe period - watch out!

i remember my uncle telling me that one of his mates got a massive fine and possibly his guns taken from him when the cop showed up for a random inspection. The bloke wasnt home so the cops asked his wife to show him and that's why he got done because only the licenced owner can have and know where the key is to the safe is this right?

Yes, have heard of this happening as well. Some good advice to heed here. If your spouse, kids etc aren't licensed, but you want them to know where the keys are in case of an emergency, make sure if the police come to look at them and you're not home, that they conveniently forget that you ever told them.

Yes I agree with that. P.S. Crocs, snakes, feral dogs etc. seldom take your firearms and use them against you but like most city people you only think about the "feral animals" that live near you. As far as "those" situations, production of a firearm (but not actual discharging) has resolved incedents for me three times. But that was in a previous occupation. |

hehe.
I my pants when the cops rocked up at home.. fart assed around in their patrol then came over to us and asked for glenn. nearly had heart failure. I dont think dads ever had guns checked out but they did mine. guy said that apparently they're doing 10,000 checks a year or something from now on.. tightening up the reigns i think. |

A bit left of the subject but I collect and make knives, swords, daggers, American double bit axes (2 blades like a battle axe), throwing axes and knives, I have to have all of my stuff locked up, the same as a person who has guns, some of the knives are worth $10.00 and some are worth $1,000.00's.
I'm also looking at getting my paintball license, and they fall under the same criteria as a gun! I wont go into how stupid that is as it's a whole other rant.
