Exclamation VFacts August 2012 (provisional)

From Drivel, the detail can be found here:

http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-new...903-259yi.html

For Ford, the nuts and bolts:

Quote:
Top 20 sellers August 2012 (provisional)

Toyota HiLux 4021
Mazda3 2990
Toyota Corolla 2944
Holden Cruze 2628
Holden Commodore 2435
Toyota Camry 2130
Hyundai i30 2125 (2861 when Elantra is included)
Nissan Navara 2020
Mazda CX-5 1679
Ford Ranger 1629
Holden Colorado 1581
Volkswagen Golf 1510
Holden Captiva7 1497
Toyota Yaris 1481
Ford Territory 1357
Nissan X-Trail 1358
Honda Civic 1360
Ford Falcon 1353
Nissan Dualis 1316
Toyota Prado 1300

How the big brands fared in August 2012 (provisional)

Toyota 17,994 (up 13 per cent)
Holden 11,271 (down 2.3 per cent)
Ford 7795 (down 6.5 per cent)
Hyundai 7732 (up 4 per cent)
Mazda 7685 (down 16 per cent)
Nissan 6502 (up 16.5 per cent)
Volkswagen 4350 (up 14 per cent)
Mitsubishi 4071 (down 16 per cent)
Honda 3840 (up 89 per cent)
Subaru 3204 (up 18.5 per cent)
Kia 2566 (up 22 per cent)
Whilst the Falcon's numbers are modest, it's coming off the back of a shocker of a month in July where they only moved 945 units. In June, they sold 1400, it would be good to see them creep back up to over the 1500 mark, but time will tell.

Territory and Ranger seem to be doing well, but the Hilux seems to be the unstoppable juggernaut. Whate gives? Surely this isnt just driven solely by tradies and the resources sector.

Nice manageable sales from Ford...Id guess the ecoboost and XR6 special editions helped..

What percentage of Falcon sales are FPV's, G6E/T's and XR6T's though?

With how low sales are now, surely FPV models make up more than 10% now?

I think they're selling about 120-140-mth and if Bossxr8 is to be believed,
Ford is making around 120 I-6 Turbos a month and around 360 EcoLPI.
but don't forget those last two will be spread across Ute as well..

Does anyone know what's up with Prado only getting 1300 sales?
Could it be Hiulux Dual cab 4WDs are pinching some sales away?

Many prados are being replaced with TX Territory Diesel AWD's... Alot of the mining companies only need AWDs for dirt roads (no proper 4wding).

Now we can all see why Holden went all out with their 0.5% interest offer. Despite the offer, the combined sales of cruze and commodore were still down approx 30% from the same month last year.

Great to see Falcon up, I wonder if this is a case of negative publicity being better than no publicity? The media has been really good in mentioning how underrated the Falcon is when rumours of its future come up. I also thing Australians have a big soft spot for cars like the Falcon, I wouldn't be surprised if it crept onto a few shopping lists because of this.

Falcon + Territory = >Commodore = win

Not too bad a month for Ford, and the Ford local product is out-selling the Holden local product*

*Cruze doesn't really count does it? Imported CKD kits to keep the factory turning is all.

When you combine the Falcon and Territory numbers Ford Australia aren't doing too badly really (noting the market shifts and GFC etc).
Especially when you compare these combined to the Commodore total sales.
Maybe all Ford Australia needs to get out of the poo is to get a small car (Fiesta or Focus) down our line as well as the Falcon and Territory..?

If the large car segment is so dead then how does the Falcon whip the Aurion, Liberty, Mazda6 and Maxima every month? :^)

Aurion should have Camry figures added to it, both same car just with different engines (Camry the 4 cylinder).

Liberty, Mazda6 and Maxima are considered medium cars and not in the same segment as Falcon and Commodore. Within the medium segment it includes Mondeo, Accord, Passat, etc. More makes, tougher competition.

Maxima is a en E segment large car I think you will find. Soon to be stopped altogether, and replaced with the D segment Altima.

Considering that past Falcon numbers were made up of mostly fleet Xr6s but now is not...
And in conjunction with that fall, SZ Territory has seen a huge change in product mix
from sub $40K specials to almost all vehicles being over $40K, that's a massive change..

i think ford would be pretty happy with that result. when the top selling passenger car for the month is under 3000 units, it gives an idea of how diverse the market is these days. apart from january (storm) april (easter) and july, falcon sales have been pretty steady this year. obviously on the low side but the way some articles/comments get worded, you would be excused for thinking differently.

Most of them are fleets.... Not private purchases.... They would sell 60 - 70 % of all Hilux's to the mines.... They are the only ones spending the cash!

A fair share of the private market is moving to Kia / Hyundai.... Dont blame them.

One thing to note re: diversity of the market, the top seller (Hilux) still only has a fraction of the numbers the Commodore and Falcon had in their heyday 10 years ago.

August 2002
1. Holden commodore 7097
2. Ford Falcon 4744
3. Toyota Corolla 3185
4. Holden Astra 2538
5. Mitsi magna/verada 2059
6. Toyota camry 1879
7. Mitsi Lancer 1771
8. Ford Laser 1422
9. Honda crv 1342
10. Nissan pulsar 1289

interesting to note that 1300 sales only just scrapes you into the top 20 now whereas 10 years ago it was top 10 figures.

also, corolla hasn't really changed all that much.

The absence of Focus, Mondeo and Festiva highlight Ford have got their mid/small car pricing wrong as these models are reasonably well publicised and marketed.
