Yeah, up here at least Bunnings have never carried the 5 point torx.

When I decided to replace my steering wheel I bought my first ever set of torx from Bunnings. Unfortunately, being six point they didn't work on the airbag, lol, but I have used them on various jobs since.

Whilst we're on the subject of handy bits, Dick Smiths sells a kit (100+ pcs) of all manner of Phillips, slot, torx (6 point), anti-theft etc bits for around $30. Very handy kit.

Great find, it's a bugger to remove the airbag without them!

Thanks for the heads up Lofty, however I also checked the new online catalogue and could'nt find them. Maybe the catalogue you have, is for a particular store in your area. :eclipsee_

I wasn't aware there was such an issue getting them. You just ask for Tamper Torx bits. If the sales assistant doesn't know what they are then I suppose you have to try another store. After informing the manager he has a dunce working for him! LOL.

I thought that the "tamper" or "security" epithet referred to the post that stands in the centre of a torx head (however many points)?

The 5 point torx are "Torx-Plus"

i think that is correct. i did notice two similar sets of torx wrenches at autobarn this morning. one was tamerproof set which had the hollow in the middle of the head.

I have both types of bits. I think I've only ever went out to get Torx bits ALONE once, the rest Ive collected as parts of small sets. If you cant get the Torx bits alone, take a peek in some of those sets.

I only found out I had them when I went to change my steering wheel over

I'm sorry some people have not been able to get them. I guess stores must differ between states. It wasn't in stock, I had to ask them for it and they had to 'do a buy-in'. Below is an image of the catalogue. It's on the front page. If that doesn't help, several other sources have now come to light.

Wink air bag bolts

Hy there I changed the wheel on my AU series one Fairmont to an EL one
anyway I couldnt undo the Torx bolts so I improvised I took to it with a 4 inch grinder I cut away the plastic surround and then cut a slot in the bolts and used a "watchmaker" screw driver the big screw driver and then replaced the bolts with mud guard 10 mm bolts just like the EL and then the plastic cover
saved me a lot of hassle
and also thenext time I have to remove the wheel it will only need a 10mm socket
thanks John
