Default Top Gear reviews the VE HSV

Loved the car, despises the look of it.

Captain Slow: I'm sensing, just sensing from that that maybe you quite like it?

Clarkson: Oooh, it is.. it's great fun, it really is.

Captain Slow: Would you have it over an M5?

Clarkson: Pfft. Tah, no... and the problem is it just looks so... moronic.

Captain Slow: <whispers> It's Australian.

Clarkson: I know, with an American engine.

Shame the quick lap (along with AC/DC soundtrack and Clarkson doing his best Aussie commentary) was in the wet.

Don't know why he didn't mention that in the review. But to be 0.3 seconds behind The Stig on a wet and oily track, while singing, is a screamer of a lap.

I love it when you "think" you have something funny to say, that in some context might even be considered Comical...but all that comes out, is a moronic comment about a problem about a car and engine from over 5 years ago.

What was Clarkson's review of the Falcon, FPV range...oh thats right, they dont get exported anywhere else in the world... The VXR was compared to a M5 and for the money can be beaten on performance in the UK..this was the same for the last 4 models of Holden's sent over there..

but I did like your attempt.. dont give up your day job.

Just watched the actual episode its a pretty good overall view of the General's car and when compared to cars of similar value, really does show what is possible!..

Fishing's good today ! It is a Ford forum, if you don't like the odd negative comment about Holdens best you go plaster your life story up at LS1.com, or don't they care ?

I don't think it was a joke, I've read somewhere there were actually oil leaks on the car. My mate has had his VE SS for 14k and its diff has failed and the sump gasket leaks.

The diff was losing fluid through the last 2 corners (according to the 2 aussie in the crowd) which was probably why the stig went wide at the last corner.

FWIW, to get close to a 911 turbo's wet time in wet conditions isn't to shabby.

I shal take what I said in the above quote back. According to the vauxhall VXR brand manager:

Quote from http://www.topgear.com/blogs/planett...with-hamilton/

"Lewis Hamilton scowled when he saw the wet track, because any chances of beating the Stig's time of 1.44.4, done on a dry track, were out of the window. Also there was oil dotted around, ****ed out by the Vauxhall VXR8 that we'd lapped earlier in the day. "

"Now regarding this oil business, conspiracy theorists, pull a chair up, because Lewis's job was to set the fastest wet time on the Top Gear F1 board, and the only other wet time belongs to Mark Webber, who's Australian.

Well you don't need to be that brainy girl on Scooby Doo to work out that the night before Lewis's lap, Mark, having seen the weather conditions for Dunsfold, has driven down to Vauxhall's press garage in Luton, scaled the walls, broken in and loosened something or other on the VXR8, and it being an Australian car, he knows which bit to loosen and where the oil is and everything. "

It was not a stab at the VXR8 just a general comment why dont u grow up a bit mate

Do you need some tissues.

At least Clarkson got the right idea on the styling.

While I'm not that big of a fan of the rear, I like the look of the rest of the car, particularly the front. If I was to make a choice between the look of the VE and the BF, I'd choose the BF though.

But if you watched the whole episode, you would have learned that it did actually blow the diff. In its defense, had it been an FPV and given the same amount of abuse, it would have ended much the same... :(

Yeah I am beginning to think Ford and Holden should recommend a new diff at every oil change. Would save some grief for owners.

This is a bit off topic

I still remember the ad that says

That's actually on topic. Here's why:

The only thing the GTS misses is the titanium conrods and extra litre of capacity that the LS7 brings. Once HSV have the "GTS-R" on the market, it will be hard for BMW/Mercedes/Audi to match it pound for pound in the "performance saloon" category

Ford will be wallowing in the wake

WAKE UP FORD!

i dont see them driving a falcon anytime soon

Yeh ur right he associates everything with a ford badge on it as been purely american. We have to get the point access there is FORD AUS.

Ford UK is bigger than Ford Aust, I think clarkson is well aware of the local influence on what is still technically american product.

I haven't watched it yet but the oil leak was reported in the British media. Not sure if the show mentions it but the website certainly lists a wet track and an oil spillage as contributing factor in Lewis’s quick lap attempt. If it’s wrong then it’s getting plenty of attention as Lewis is pretty big news at the minute.

The site hope to run the "cut' version of the news in about 10 hours for those that are interesting in the stuff that didn't go to air.

See.. I'm hoping Top Gear Australia would be successful. That way it'd be easier to get any of the Top Gear presenters as a special guest in one of the show. Jeremy can try out the Falcons/FPVs then.
