Default Anyone know what getting a car towed is worth?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has a rough idea of towing costs for approximately 35kms?

Trying to buy a car, and just need to allow for towing costs, but obviously it's too late to call any toweys!

I would tow it with my car, but I only have a 1600kg tow pack.

Any advice is much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Justin.

When RACV tows, It's free for the first 100km then $3.50/km after that... To get a towey might cost you a flagfall then per km... not sure.

Normal RACV membership will ger a broken down car towed for 8 klms for free and then there is a charge per klm.

If you are located around melbourne, try Steph at showtow he is a member here and has his own truck and trailer and specialises in lowered cars and peoples pride and joys http://www.fordforums.com.au/member.php?u=1190

Yeah basic RACV will only get you towed 8km or to the closest depot for free, then $3.50 per km. And only if its a breakdown. You cant be say wanting to drop your rolling chassis off for a paint job at the panel beaters.

Total care will get you 100km for free in the vehicle its registered to, or gives you basic member privellages in any car you drive.

But for general towing, your best bet is to call around, tell the different companies the location of pick up and drop off and ask for a quote. Then go with the one that is most reasonable. For standard commercial towing a mate used to charge $88 pick up and $3.30 per km

Thanks for all the advice guys. Managed to find 2 open tonight one said $216, the other said $170. The guy I bought the car off reckons he can get it done for something like $80, but I don't think that's even possible!

If your only going 35k`s, hire a trailer and tow it with your car.

I would, but I don't have the right towpack. Plus my tranny is getting a bit tired so probably not the best thing to keep it going!
Anyway, it's up to $100 to hire a trailer, but for a little more I can have the whole thing delivered to me without any of the stuffing around!

no thanx to the dude who took advantage of peoples misfortune last night at Strattford. He was charging 120+ to tow your car 50 meters to get across the flooded road. The ***** made thousands out of it...stuff that not me, so I just gave my 100 to a motel in Bairnsdale.
Last time i used a toey was last year in cranbourne cost me 40 bucks to move the car 10 km's...now that was damn cheap!

Well, got it towed today. Ended up only being $90 which I thought was a great price for the distance.

Free plug for Ross at Northern Tilt Tray Service (0419 566 771) - great price, very helpful, and very friendly. He even gave me a lift back and we had a great chinwag!
