Hey Prof, is the second pic in the story (appears to be taken from a VG-coloured XR8) yours? Been out driving in the twisty stuff again?

Yep hope it's true, about time they put some serious power into dual cabs and not boring slow diesels. Why can't ford just stick a turbo barra into the ranger. What a truly awesome rig it would be haha

The i5 barely fits...where is the Barra motor gonna go in the tray?

Maybe, the majority of dual cab glam utes never see a tool in the tray, only in the drivers seat. I did generalise a bit over the line, but what's a bit of social banter here or there?

I know you joking as we all know they are obviously not making Barras anymore

But just as a comparison the smaller ecoboost pushes out pretty good figures and delivers it at lower RPM and economy

2.7 Eco boost 242kW 515Nm
Barra 245T 245kW 480Nm

3.0 ecoboost 298kW 542Nm
Barra 310T 310kW 565Nm

3.5 ecoboost 283kW 624Nm
Barra 325t 325kW 576Nm

(there's a few Eco boost variants to pick so yes I selected the better ones)

These engines are already in the larger F150 so would push along a Ranger with ease - no brainer really.

Can you run the plate number through a revs check site or similar to find vehicle details?

Can someone please explain the stupidity of when road testing a new vehicle such as this, they paint it up in colours that only say....'hello look at me, here I am, but you dont know what I am"

To me intellagence would say ' paint it plain white, it wont stand out. Ive seen this happen for years and cannot understand the stupidity.
Or maybe its a great advertising ploy......... as we see on this forum, lots of comments generate lots of interest (good or bad) creates lots more comments.

Social media advertising what an excellent idea.

I don't think the purpose is to avoid attention as much as it is to disguise the styling so marketing can reveal it how and when they want to. Otherwise the public, the press, and the competitors will already be well aware of all the styling details Way before the press release.

Is this really happening? After like 7 years I thought ford never installed a decent engine into these because that tin can thai chassis wouldn't handle the power and torque. Why can't they just give us the real deal F150 instead. Isn't that what one Ford is all about?

Seems to be "One Ford" & American Fords.
Its getting closer though but they sell enough F150's to not even care about exporting them.

Personally I think the F150 is too big for here a 6M Ranger is big enough!
It will be interesting to see how Rangers sells when re-Introduced to the Yanks.
downsizing to a Ranger..

The Ranger is only a few years away from coming back to the US, this could be not just a Ranger raptor prototype but a next gen Ranger prototype as well.

Be good to see some decent petrol power plants in the dual cab ute market. Really dislike diesel.

Finally and ranger with some power under the bonnet. Awesome conversion. Hopefully someone does a barra conversion to one as well. Awesome stuff.

I don't think that any of those utes need any more power. From what I see nearly every day in the city, they are already on their handling limits!

I actually agree here, and I'm all for more power. However I see 4x4 dual cab utes driven way too quick for the conditions/vehicle capabilities almost daily.

They've overtaken VT Commodore drivers as the new hoons of the road.
