It kind've seems every 2nd or 3rd performance Commodore driver has to show off in traffic after spotting my Falcon when I'm out & about around my way.
Have you seen the same around your way, if so any thoughts lol!!! cheers, Maka

I used to have a 300c Hemi so I experienced this many times. Also it was most P platers with a modified exhaust no matter how average their car was.
I've never seen the appeal to modifying a base spec Mazda 3 to make it louder |

It's even worse if you own a classic of any make. Don't let it bother you. In most cases its not like you'll ever see them again. The best they can hope for is someone somewhere on on social media believes how their car beat a high performance car that wasn't racing them in the first place. Even window lickers need to feel special occasionally.

I get it alot in my TD Cortina, people either tailgate of can't wait to get past, mainly soccer mums and dads in suv's. I don't drive it hard but with a 6cyl manual in it I don't dawdle and have no worries keeping up with modern traffic. I think it comes down to whether the person is a 'real' petrol head. I had a guy in a VY Clubsport wind his window down and compliment my T1 a while back, caught me off guard, both the car he was in and the fact that he actually new what it was. Complimented him back and we both pulled away in a civilised, respectful manner. Don't get me started on the Malloo ute up the road though, he gives it a boot load every time he comes past and sees me on the driveway working on the Mk1 Cortina, wtf?

Commodore drivers generally pull their head in and know better when I'm driving the Boss335 GT. But driving in my stocky looking FG XT with rims, the last commodore driver who tried (VF2 SS Redline) got burned terribly. Little did he know it had 375rwkw FG-X turbo running gear. After being caned three times in a row like he was a hyundai excel, he conceded defeat the front passenger wound down his window and gives a begrudging thumbs up...

Hi, do you mind sharing who's doing the tuning and what kit? I have tasted the goodness of liquid injection 375rwkw with plenty of fuel left, JTG LPG, but suffered a snapped head bolt, which has been fixed but the car hasn't run right ever since. Looking for a new tuner as I am sick of visiting the tuner every second week sorting out problems that shouldn't happen.

In my SS I know to drive sensibly around any Falcon with a Turbo badge. It’s a battle my stock SS will not win!
I’m not one to look for a ‘race’. But being completely honest here, the most recent couple of times I’ve been challenged have been by Falcon I6 owners. Once was like 4am and and I was beside a I6 ute, no other cars on the road. We were stuck at 3 sets of lights together, first 2 he gunned it off the line and I didn’t. 3rd set we both gunned it and I became a pair of tail lights in the distance. Another was an I6 sedan who came up on the left beside me while I was in the middle lane stopped at lights. The left lane ends a few hundred meters after the lights. I gave him a small 0.5 second head start to see if he’d go for it or take off normal. He went, so I went. Similar story to the ute. I’ve actually never had the pressure put on me by an I6T or any Miami V8 Falcon. I would accept the challenge, knowing I’d lose. But would do it out of curiosity. |

Bob (owner) offered to take me for a quick trip up to the top of the Pass and back . The DMR yard was halfway up the incline and as trucks are in and out of there Bob waited until we'd cleared that . Just leisurely doing 80 kmh . He gave her a tickle in the guts and way in time to slow up for the driver reviver stop we'd hit 190 kmh. My lunch was still where we started . A quick U'ey and on the return trip the needle slipped past 210 kmh before I knew what had happened . In 2014 , a work mate retired and bought himself a brand new FG ll XR6 T in vermillion . A couple of months on about lunch time he called up at school (where I work) and asked if I'd like a ride . It'd been drizzling so at the Cornwall Avenue after we'd cleared a truck on deliveries he gave it a bit of a kick . Same sensation but Dick (owner) was a bit reticent due to give his new toy full welly because of the potentially slippy road . Still incredible get up and go though despite totally stock and a wet tarmac. By any measure you'd need a pretty well sorted vehicle to match it with a Turbo Falcon on the boost . |

I've moved into a new place on a main arterial road in Ipswich near a very large leagues club and the amount of idiots in stupidly loud Commodores, Toranas, Falcon's, Subaru's, Jeeps (and other high riding 4x4s) and Magna's is insane. But more commodes than others due to larger numbers out there.
We had one night where I was woken by some moron doing donuts out the front of our neighbours place at 3am in VN, then to my astonishment I heard him go down the next Street and did the same... Then another Street and more donuts and it continued until he went too far away for me to hear or he finally killed his tires; I don't know which. I have noticed though that everytime I put the Typhoon out front the amount of burnouts at the T intersection increases exponentially as well as the hard acceleration past our place. I'd prefer to keep the car out of sight especially when idiots are slithering about next to it, but I've no choice at the moment as it's space under the car port is needed for drop saws and such whilst we renovate (I need a shed!). I've come to hate all cars with loud exhausts living here! Especially between the hours of 11pm and 6am.

Once crusing along in the sprint 6, vf ss comes out of no where and starts egging me on to race him along the Cumberland, over and over he'd give a little squirt until he got the hint and buggered off by nailing it. The missus turned to me and said " wow hun i can't believe you didn't bite just then" i just looked at her and calmly said "babe 98 is $1.70 a litre at the moment, and I'm not wasting my money on something I already know"

The Blue Oval and the Red Lion , tribal warfare , good natured insults , respect begrudging or otherwise , even admiration . God Forbid some even bat for both sides owning a mix of each brand .GOT TO LOVE IT.
I recall reading some posts on a Holden Forum site around the time of Ford closing the doors and a whole thread was devoted to Ford comments from the Holden crew .Was just browsing out of pure curiosity . Overwhelmingly was the sensation of loss of a friendly rival and that rivalry made both companies lift their game with the performance offerings over the years . Pretty true I'd say. On our own AFF this has certainly been reciprocated since Holden pulled up stumps late last year . Kind of sad that time will see the end of the golden years of the Blue v Red battle as we knew and loved it . Might get a rebirth to a degree if the Camaro one day gets sold here in a meaningful way , maybe , kinda , sorta although if Holden falls to bits like some are predicting that might be increasingly unlikely . |

In 5 years of owning I6 turbo and Miami Falcons, I've never had a single Commodore take me on. Ever. Plenty of Excels and Lancers etc. Even a wrapped swift with "Illest" stickers.

I reckon its a cultural thing, we grew up with those two very much loved manufacturer's & name plates, they were like family.
They are atm two longtime Bathurst competitors that made winning race drivers household names, our nation is very sporty & that synergy is what makes us love our Falcons & Commodore's plus the fact that both the cars were manufactured here in Australia. All those factors i mentioned imo is why certain Commodore drivers around here anyway like to pose/showoff when I'm out & about lol. Its perhaps a sign of respect & a celebration of our car culture imo - now with Holdens current woes in shifting vehicles because it seems they took for granted their old customer base. There i said it lol!! I believe that cultural synergy is what they lost & maybe why their (Insignia cough cough) Commodore is tanking atm. Anyway, so now when i see a Commodore driver pose off in front of me its actually a tip of the cultural hat & a show of love & joy for their favourite cars. And no its not the "ive got a bigger you know what" type of thing lol!! cheers, Maka

I have noted the same carry on from plenty of F6's and XR6 Turbo drivers, along with other Holden and HSV's. Lets not talk about the 2 wheeled variety, they tend to be sensitive creatures.

My work car is a Renault Kangoo 1.5 TD, I get towelled up by Hyundai Getz, Toyota Echos and Mazda 1s.
The left hand lane is my best friend on the motorway...but I do get 950 kms out of a tank and average 5.4 l/100 km I think the HP Commodores and Falcons are embarrassed to be seen near me... |
