OK, did a quick search and couldn't find a "what's it worth" or "opinions" thread.
I have a number of sets of Victorian number plates I have been considering selling. I find them to be unique, and to the right person they may be prepared to pay handsomely, but I don't want to put a massive price up and be seen as a D I C K The story went that when I bought the girlfriend her dream car (XR5) the comment used to be that she "drove it like she stole it" Gets some great looks, people don't get it at first, but their faces are priceless when they do So I got NELOTS for her (as stolen was inappropriate). So whats it worth to those who want to stick it to the Authorities ???

TBH you'd need to find someone who thinks about it the same way you do for it to be worth anything.
In my opinion this isn't really worth anything special beyond the normal price, but that's just me others might be more enthusiastic.

Not much I'm afraid.
You may get something for it but you won't be retiring anytime soon. I think plates are worth about 20-50 times less than what sellers usually ask for them. Good luck with it. |

If people think like I do and see plates as something they wish they didn't have to have on their cars then it would be worth nothing.
I'm not down playing those that like them but the whole phenomena of personalised plates passed me by. Here in NSW there is an annual fee for them, I already spend enough on rego without having to add to it. |

Plates are an accessory and as with anything, it's all about demand and rarity. In short, for a plate to be valuable, is has to be a combination that can be used on a multitude of vehicle brands, be recogniseable and also be "cool". That is what will determine value.

I'm surprised that my plates BLOWN 5L were available when I ordered them a couple years ago. Not sure what the demand for them would be.

If they sell they sell if they don't they don't. If I do get an FGX I've got them, or even as aman cave display with all the signatures on them. I'm banking on their value going up if the upcoming XR8 Sprint has the 351 tune.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to come up with new combinations. I have 4 sets of plates at the moment and there are a few more that I would like. The bugger of it all is that most of the new ones I want are $3,200 to buy. It becomes expensive.....

Unless they are a plate that will be sought after, you'll be lucky to get your money back. Usually, they are available for a reason.
I bought FGX335 because I knew that even if I didn't end up buying the XR, I could certainly sell them for more than I paid for them. But I did get the XR, and the plates look schmick as!

"Do I have any lots for sale? Just check out my number plates!"

To me personalised plates aren't worth anywhere near what some people think they are worth, you only have to jump on eBay to see the scalpers out for a quick buck.

I wanted this combo a while back. Personally I wouldnt have an issue paying a lump sum for a set of plates and them being mine.. I do however turn my nose up at renting them for $400 a year for the privilege!

I own eight sets of Qld prestige number plates, all of them being spelt correctly with no letters having been substituted for numbers or any other abbreviations.. when I first started buying them number plates were worth a bit more, but after PPQ making it much easier to buy plates, and releasing seven letter plates year round, they're not quite as valuable as plates of yesteryear. In saying that, none of them would leave my hand for less than $5k, they'll never release the combinations to anyone else so I'd rather hide them in the cupboard. Only one of them has even seen the light of day, on my toy ute for Powercruise

Isnt there a SITE that you can get your plates valued?...And i am at quite a loss as to why you would want "STOLEN/NELOTS" as a number plate...??

The thing with MOST personalised plates, is that they are exactly that. Something that means something to you Personally. The problem with the OP's is twofold, firstly the letters are reversed (not mirrored) so you have to look and decode,
and secondly it was a somewhat private joke with his girlfriend anyway. The other issue is that most of the "good" ones are taken. If you got in early and have "GTHO 351" that's probably worth a bit. "H15 GTSO" probably not much.

The thing is "you" never own the plates, they belong to what ever gov organization that lets you register you vehicle in your state. As a buyer you know that the above mentioned plate will never go in to circulation again and is worth big dollars. Plates with "text speak" or other abbreviation's are less likely to attract any dollars as the owner will hang on to them as long as he can afford to keep them on hold at the registry. The cost of hanging on to them will eventually outweigh to minimal sale value and they will go back into circulation and the next person with to much money to spend will get them. Kind of wish I never ordered mine. Last edited by Carrion; 04-10-2015 at 04:26 PM. Reason: spelling |

I think most number plates only the owners would know what they mean. I have a BF RTV my number plates are RTV000 and while I think it's bloody obvious I keep getting asked what does it stand for
