Default shopping centre scrapes and hits.

These happen all to often and yes dash/reverse cameras can be used to catch offenders, but many of the offences are merely scrapes and your not going to get insurance involved with minor jobs so what to do?

Catch the culprit and then what? try finding out where they live/ get bashed up when you visit them/ police wont get involved....

whats the options.

Funny, the lady was still in the car when I walked back. I could barely get into the drivers side.

Do you have this problem everywhere when you go out? Sit down in a pub and a woman parks herself next to you?

This strange phenomena may be because some people have difficulties with vehicle alignment, necessitating a larger object to make a more accurate position. (It's difficult to see the lines when parked, why we all love to drive foward into the empty space)

Happened to me at Bunning yesterday.
Underground parking full of thick poles and tradies so found a spot up against a pole right away from the chaos. Before I had finished backing in a huge 4WD took the spot next to me, lady driver. She didnt understand my Really!? face, she smiled at me. As above, enraging

To be honest it doesn't really bother me, except this one was a bit too cozy. I took the photo because a mate of mine was having a gripe about this issue at the time, and I thought I'd give him a laugh.

I reckon its psychological, some people feel safer being close to other people. I guess she could have left one space apart .

If it's not your fault, why wouldn't you get insurance involved? Might be the only way that some of these people will learn.

If you're not at fault & can name the at fault party you pay NO excess & keep your No claim Bonus

Not so simple, most insurers are lazy and will want the other parties name and address, until they get this you have to pay the excess, then if they find them and they don't pay you wont get your excess back until they do.

Had a similar scenario play out about 8 years ago, had the guys rego, phone number and his business name, for SGIO this was not good enough and the insisted I paid the excess, they wanted his actual name and address, when I rang the guy he would just hang up on me and was being a d**k, so I did a Business search on ASIC, got his real name and home address ( even went for a drive to see his car parked in the driveway ), SGIO took it from there and I didn't have to pay the excess.

In my experience within the last 18 months, all I had to hand over was the rego and they took care of the rest. Even got to pick our own repairer and got a hire car thrown in as well.

Not doubting that this is your experience, but you are saying all you had was a rego number and made a claim through your insurer and that was it?

Was there a police report, was the damage substantial or minor, did you pay an excess at all?

Not saying that this is the case for you as some insurers allow things that others dont, you may have a good insurer, most of the main insurers dont do you any favours.

The reason I ask is most insurers wont move forward with a claim when they only have a rego number, it is only because you can go into a car park and blame the person parked next to you, just grab a rego and say that they hit your car, its very hard for each person to prove they did or did not.
This if allowed by your insurer would make it very easy for fraudulent claims and you could blame any damage on people that didn't touch your car, you could even try your luck and grab a rego off the car in front of you on the freeway and make a claim.

From being in this industry for many years, I see it every day what people try to claim for on small accidents, they try everything to get their car fixed on damage you clearly know is not part of a claim, they even try to blame us for damage while its with us ( fortunately we have a very good check in process ), the assessors know all the tricks people try, they can and will deny a claim and cancel insurance if they suspect its a fraudulent claim, its funny how many people will still try it though.

Ok point taken, so all you would need is proof of other car hitting you (from dash camera?) and rego, throw that at your insurance?

Most shopping centre car parks have security cameras. As the management to let you view the footage.

i would be surprised if they let a "Joe Blow" walk in off the streets & ask to see vid of incident & supply it.

i had an incident at work where grease was left on my cars door handle [behind & thankfully didn't catch me out]. asked work to checkout the video ....... said either a certain car drove past or a person. reply back was - nup didn't see anything. we do how ever have a very good idea who did it as i took a pic of 'a' car parked across the street from mine earlier that same day, when i was at smoko. other half recognised the car straight off [her x].

No go Joe... (or should I say Ian) Oldest Daughter came back top her car in a Shopping centre Carpark to find a Very Neat Towbar tongue size Hole/dent in her Rear Bumper. Shopping centre refused to become involved..

We ended up eating the Repair cost..
Quote was $900 her excess was $500 by the time you factor in the loss of the No-Claim Bonus. It was a bit of a Wash, which way to go..

thought this was heading easy street until you pipe in
So if this were to happen, you get evidence from shopping centre surveillance, all you have is a rego and make/model of car.
Would the police be willing to assist or can you get further info from motor rego in your state.

What if its just a supermarket car park, we have 3 over here, would they have cameras or be too tight a**ed to spend the $$
a little snooping around tomorrow.

Sorry for that, and the cops are very unhelpful too, they are not allowed to give you a offenders details, ( just in case you go and bash them ), rego will not give you personal details either, if the police take on the case ( doubtful ), you may be able to give the incident number and the insurer can access details from that.

You could always try walking to and from your Supermarket = free exercise, especially from.

But if you work 7 days/12 hours or live too far away or CBF etc, how about investing in a crappy car.

System has always been broken. Good men can't have nice things.

I cant talk for other shops around the country

Parts are always a problem, new, used, non-gen, refurbished, but majority of parts are in stock somewhere in Australia and don't take long to get by air, I personally ordered a rad support and a bonnet for a current shaped Mini through BMW a month back, there was nothing in Perth, but there was in Melbourne, 24 hours it was here no extra charge and was not badly priced for new genuine.

Its not really as bad as they make it out to be, sure there is a parts shortage but it might delay 1 or 2 cars out of 70 + per week for us, some parts are months off ( EX Japan, USA, or Europe ) some are only days, I would say we have 5-10 cars waiting on parts but 2-300 have already been done and gone in the same period.

What is the big killer for these luxury cars is the price of the parts and how many bits they have in the front of them, have a A3 Audi in at the moment with a light front tap there is $10,000 just in the 2 headlights, this is what writes them off.
