Got a bit of a query here, but what is the top belt tensioner (one circled)worth on the AU 6?
Im almost certain mine has just gone cactus, car sounded like it was supercharged (i wish) this morning with a whine which increases with revs, im almost certain it coming that that area on the motor. Serpentine belt is fine, so im almost 100% its that tensioner. Bit cheezed off to be honest, its a damn annoying thing car has only got 130k on it and i need the car 100% at the moment, i know its only noise, but im a obsessive nutter when it comes to these things.

if it is low it sounds like a supercharger!!

best way to check which pully it is thats making the noise is to get a long screw driver, pointy end on the non moving area of the pully bolt. a slight hum will be heard on a good bearing, a real grinding noise will be heard on a bad one. and i believe the idle/tensioner pully combo are one unit your best off trawlling ebay or going to the wreckers for these rather then going to Ford who will charge you twice as much as anywhere else!!

when i got my car just over a year ago it was making that sort of noise, well more of a grinding sound, took it back to the dealer the next day, changed that pulley, all good ever since, so that's probably what your problem is....mind you then it only had 115k or so on it

you can replace the pulleys seperate upper and lower pulleys pretty common for them to get noisy as said early you can check em with a long screw driver i cant remember how much they are but ..i know you can get metal afta market ones that are alot better than the factory plastic ones Repco or someone like that will sell em....

about $150 or so. I had the tensioner and belt changed for $200 a while back -- the belt started shredding cos the tensioner was warped or something

Got a new pulley today, it feels a lot better (and quieter_ to spin than the old one. Will swap it over on friday.
