Default aufalcon.com ratings are BACK!

As some of you may notice the “ratings” area of aufalcon.com has been removed. Over the last few weeks I’ve been watching it closely and, unfortunately, have found it is being abused. There is a number of cars that were constantly on top and, almost on a daily basis, the order and ratings were changing quite dramatically. In some cases there were 20 or 30 votes per car per day. Normally this is not going to worry me too much but when it’s the same cars and a clear pattern of vote down some and vote up others over and over and over it becomes a bit of a bad joke. Therefore, before it gets ugly, I’ve made the decision to remove it altogether. The “car of the day” random selection remains and Dauphin and I will discuss a possible alternative to the ratings selection in the future.

Casper.

How about in its place a spot for "My Favourites" or something, allow each member to select up to five cars that show there - the ones they drool over the most :P

I'm guessing each individual car's page would need an "add to my favourites" button, and everyone's profile would need a "manage favourites" area.

Just a thought.

And a very good thought. I like that Idea. Will talk to Dauphin about it.

I like the favourites idea. Each user gets five favourites, and the top cars are ordered by the number of times they are someones favourite.

Actually I wasn't thinking of it as having any "top cars" in my idea, just replace the five cars that were there as top rated with five that the user chooses themselves.

If browsing without logging in, it just looks the way it does now with the updates the two columns wide.

Thought that something had been going on when I got a heap of 1's, LOL.

A random selection is a good idea.

Geat news. Ratings is a bit silly. Like driving with fog lamps. Or trying to eat a Big Mac, while indicating, while searching for those pickles while getting an itch, while then trying to wipe the sauce of your pants.

I agree, lose the voting

I'd like to know how sad someone's life must be that they'd care what rating their car got on a website.

mm I thought I was going mad at first. I was updating my car pics and accidently delted everything - bugga - 600 odd hits and 3.01 rating or something. Then no ratings !!

Well my car is back, think the random car of the day is better anyway

Maybe the random car of the day could be replaced with car of the week/month that everyone votes on.

But then the same issue will ocurr, the same car would be there week in week out. Personally don't care but obviously some do.

I have no issue with a popular car being shown all the time, my issue is with deliberate abuse of the system. I've got an idea in my head that I'm going to discuss with Dauphin to see if its possible. Otherwise the "ratings" will just become a thing of the past.

Unless they have the type of modem they can reset and it changes IP.

Also I didn't know four year olds could own a car.

The favorites idea is great and I will be implementing it as soon as possible.

I don't think my car has ever been randomly-selected either.

So who was responsible for ruining the ratings system for everyone else?????

Default Favorites system online

Login as usual, go to a favorite car and click the new "add to your favorites list" link. The top favorites (as selected by everyone) will be displayed where the old top rated cars section was. You can manage your favorites by using a new option in your My Account menu.

There will be a little odd period as the numbers grow, so please go and add your favorites and we'll see what happens.
