I got one of the NL Fairlane woodgrain ones off ftg autospares. I think I paid around $200. It still fitted the AU. There are lots of Momo and woodgrain wheels going S/H and new old stock form a few dealers and auto recyclers. You can pay from $175 to around $500.

There are easy enough to fit and airbags don't go off without being ignited by the battery which you disconnect first! You do need a special Torx driver though.

i got an AUIII XR one, looks good enough for me. I'd get a momo one if they came in plain black leather.

Any steering wheel from EF-AU will fit any model in that range, i.e. yuo can fit an AU steering wheel to an EF and vice versa.

Im quite partial to the MOMO Leather and Woodgrain one as seen on AUII/III Fairmonts/Ghias, been looking for one for a long time to no avail (anyone got one?).

One point I will add is that if yuo dont feel confident enough to do it yuorself, don't. Even if you do disconnect the battery, the airbag can still go off because it stores power to activate itself in the event of an emergency where the battery has already been hit/destroyed. And after having deliberately set one off in Spare Parts one day to see what would happen, it wouldn't be a nice thing to go off right in your face as you were working on it.

And yes you do need a special Torx bit, the 5 star/side one won't work.

If yuo can work a good price with your dealer, Id go that way.

Hate to sound nit-picky but just to clarify: The residual power stored by the SRS module is stored in a capacitor and will disipate over time. If you disconnect the battery then leave it for 5mins before you work on it all power will be gone. But still - do be very careful anyway of course.

Normal Torx are 6-point -- they won't work. You need a Torx Plus which is the 5-point version - mut be a 'security' one too which means it has a hole in the end of it. Size 30 IIRC.

No worries at all Steve, you would certainly know a lot more about it than me!

If anybody has a MOMO Woodgrain and Leather one lying around..........

yup, back in the days of the EL XRs you could get the momo wheel wrapped in plain black leather. I'll see if i can find a pic anywhere; IMO these looked the best (aside from the EL GT wheels). You'd be hard pressed to find one these days though.

Cheers,
Julza

was going to say the same, they'd cost a fortune if the standard ones fetch $200 or so on ebay. I got my XR wheel for free and i reckon it looks good enough though

Glenn gotta agree with you there mate, got the same wheel on my EL and they're pretty good, gets the job done. Quite a bit cheaper than the momos too. Depends on what you're after really.

I'd say Ferntree Gully Auto Salvage would be your best bet mate, they've got a whole range of those momo wheels mentioned, as well as the standard XR leather ones. A couple of EL GT wheels and what not in stock too i believe:
www.ftgautosalvage.com.au
Otherwise, you could try ringing around some Ford dealers to see if they have anything. A couple of guys managed to score new momo wheels at the lilydale dealership (sorry forget the dealer, correct me if i'm wrong guys ), but that was a couple of years back.

Cheers,
Julza

You can also have a look at the SVO Wheels for something a bit different:

Just a suggestion, if you're gonna swap the steering wheel to the momo. You might want to get the matching momo gear lever as well. I got mine from ftg. They were nice enough to post it to me to NZ as well...

I'm very happy with my momo wheel, I espeically like the way it has humps not only sideway, but also in the "in and out" plane. Well worth the $$.

And as back2thefutura said, be careful, if you're not confident Ford will pop it on for 20-30 bucks.
