It's not a fan belt you have electric thermo fans but the serpentine belt tensioner has a square holw that takes a 3/8" square sockect drive. You ypur 3/8" drive ratchet wrench or breaker bar in it and rotate clockwise to take the tension off to remove or replace the belt.

You don't even need to do what aussiblue said (Sorry Aussiblue I'm not trying to undermine you) as I normally just grab the belt and lift it up and over the power steering pulley. It can be a little bit of a squeze getting your hands between the the belt and the thermo fans.

Use a breaker bar on the lower pulley to help pull it up... this releases tension on the belt and makes it alot easier to replace.

How about getting the new belt on? Will it just slip on?

Put it on the same way you took it off... with the adjuster pulley pulled up, there is no tension... you just slip it on... A 3rd hand to hold the breaker bar can come in handy.

lol. the pulley has a 1/2" square drive in the centre... use the breaker bar in the square drive and pull it back inwards... this does NOT undo it... release the pulley carefully after the new belt is installed.

Look up on the underside of the bonnet should be a sticker showing the way it goes on, my tip to get new belt on is turn belt inside out (ribs up) and put around tensioner pulley first, flat side to flat pulley, from bottom of tensioner pulley to top of crankshaft, around crankshaft, now belt is the normal way around, then a/c, idler, power steering, alternator and while holding tesioner tight slip over water pump.
Obviously gotta take out fans first |

My tensioner pulley has an arm connecting it to the pulley above it. Um......
How do I get around that? I couldn't see any way of getting it on.

Thats normal, it's hard to explain in words but you turn belt inside out and get a small loop of about 4 inches in your hands, approach the tensioner pulley (bottom of the two, the flat one) at 90 degress and hook the loop between the block and the pulley then loop it so that it goes around the pulley, then feed the belt around the rest like I said before
It is confusing at first but easy once you get it |
