Default Power Steering Issues...

Hey peoples,

My AUII 6 is having some issues with the power steering, i have searched around a bit and gotten some info as to what might cause this...

My steering wheel shudders fairly violently when i am at park turning the wheel and moderately better at very low parking speeds, aside from that once the car is moving it feels fine.

I found likely causes to be

Fluid level
Leaks
steering pressure switch
or the rack itself.

I think i can rule out fluid level as it was only like a week ago i checked and it was fine, i will check again tommorrow.

Leaks, well no loss of fluid kinda rules this out too, i have seen a bit of fluid from one of the boots but nothing substantial..

Leaving the switch or the rack, if the switch is knackered would it cause the symptoms i have or not, would a stuffed rack be stuffed all the time at speed and parked?

Any info appreciated,
Cheers Simon.

The switch or the pump itself can cause those symptoms but with a pump it is usualy associated with fluid loss. I'd definately put my money on a pressure problem most likely associated with the valving or switch. Either way I reckon your better off taking it to someone to check or your shooting in the dark

Hey again,

Cheers howesy, i checked the fluid level this morning and it is pretty much spot on still, i have bleed the rack ie lock to lock a few times and taken the car for a cruise and it seems to be all peaches... unless its some sort of intermitent problem...

We did have it up on the hoist yesterday and it was after this that the problem developed the only thing i think might have done something is turning the wheels side to side without the pump going i dont know. Its a bummer old mate with the shop took off b4 me otherwise i would have rolled straight back in there...

Anyways it looks like i have worse problems i have air bubbles spa style in my coolant header tank and less water : a new head gasket for me im guessing, aswell as exhaust gaskets (why I was under the car)... this sucks em but ill see she gets the TLC

Cheers again,
Simon.

Manually turning the wheels will do that
After a service start car and go lock to lock with the wheels in the air (or low load like on dirt) a few times to get the air out, usually gets out most of the shudder
