Hey I would strongly suggest not using a stock T5. They are a woeful gearbox and weak, very very weak.
Strongly recommend getting a T5 Z-spec or a dogset from PAR engineering. they both will set you back around the same money.
Ive got a rebuilt and strengthened manual in mine cause I shattered it with stock power pretty much.
If you posted this up about 2 months ago I would of gladly done a deal with you.

Sounds like you know a bit about them mate! Were you hard on the T5 to kill it with standard power? Any idea what sorta power levels a T5 and T5Z can cope with?

How much did all that work set you back? I am pondering converting my auto to manual, or wondering if auto is the way to stay.

Stop pondering George, you know there is only one way to go! Even if you can get a stronger auto for around the same money, it's still auto! Where is the fun in that?
I drive mine with a bit of spirit most of the time, and I don't know how to shift the best yet. The T5 in mine has not missed a beat yet! That is with the occasional miss and grind into 3rd, and it still takes it. Maybe I am just not driving it as hard as I think though.

Leave me alone Evan, the torment is beginning to hurt!

You could of course have some pity on me and come over so I can have another drive! LOL!

I have a z-spec box in my car. I believe they are rated for around 220-240RWKW. It all depends on how you drive though.

T5's, well there have been varying results with them. Rollin destroyed 3 with 270rwhp.

Dude, take it so then GK has no choice but to get a manual!

If I end up going to Heathcote on Sunday George, you should come along and see if you can get me that 14 I have been hunting for! My skills are not quite yet up to the task, but I recon you could do it!

Btw, Hotrod, I recon you should give Mal Wood a call, they were more than helpful when I was hunting for my conversion. I am pretty sure they build the Z spec manuals anyway.

Ive seen over 300rwkw put through a Z spec and take it for a while, eventually gave up the ghost.
Umm yeah I gave the stockie a hard time.. 4000rpm dumps, flatchanging, burnouts, usually kind of stuff, although it lasted over 2 years. The brass button clutch ive got is what killed it, shock loading - T5's worst enemy.
The gearbox ive got now is a strengthened version of a Z spec, but not quiet a Tremec T56.

i've got a z spec in the shed, built by mal wood. it's probably going fairly cheap. (did i mention 3rd is making a little noise) allthough i don't think it will be much to have another put in.
stiddy's on the money, my button clutch didn't help it. anyway if you want it let me know

like stiddy said above. Shock loading a T5 will kill it. Sledgehammer is running his stock 5 speed in his S1 Au XR8 and he has run upwards of 500 horsepower at the treads with the stock gearbox. Its all about ow you drive. Hot Rod wants it for drifting i would go a 6 speed but there not cheap. Have a talk to Mal woods Hot rod he's out your way he'll even put a hollinger straight out of a supercar for you for 15k if you want.

As far as I know, only the hand built XR8's had the Z-spec boxes, which is no good for hotrod because the input shaft and bell housing is different for an I6. I don't think it is an easy job to fit one up. The XR6 boxes are just a bog stock T5 manual.
