Gday all
I changed my interior from forte grey to SR black but I need the steering wheel. I've been putting up with the grey one for a while, but now the clock spring needs replacing as i currently have no horn, airbag or audio controls, so i may as well replace the wheel when changing the spring thing. i used to see the black/blue leather wheels on ebay fairly regularly a while back. Does anyone know where's the best place to get one these days? doesn't have to be the tickford wheel. also if I paint the grey airbag black, will that look noticeably tackier than buying a black airbag? whats the recommended paint? I also need some other black bits if anyone has any lying around - door handles, fuse cover, glovebox, auto gear lever, seatbelts... thanks Geoff |

not sure but you could probably get a black wheel from a wrecker... and ask for the airbag as well, or if your safety is worth more than a cheap airbag, go to ford i was quoted $497 or 487 brand new black airbag for AU2-AU3 (thats mates rates though)

i read a thread on here somewhere where someone was advised to paint their airbag with black vinyl dye or something like that. Tony's Auto Wreckers quoted me $165 for a standard black wheel, $265 for a standard leather wheel and $275 for a second hand black airbag if he had one. for that price i'll try to paint my grey airbag.
was hoping for a better deal on the wheel though. if i recall the momo leather ones used to sell on ebay for about the price he quoted on the standard leather job but i haven't seen any on there for a while... |

I've dyed mine as well - VHT vinyl spray, satin black.
While you can use a wheel to suit EF/EL on your AU, you cannot use the EF/L airbag (just thought I'd point that out). I strongly recommend the AutTek wheels - they are basically a BA GT wheel with EF/EL/AU centre/mounting - much more comfortable than a momo one, and only $200 from ebay. I have the black with silver inserts in my EL, and had the same one on my black interiored AU XR8 - that's how much I love that wheel; I just keep buying them.

cool - 2 questions...
since driving comfort is more important to me than the look, is the momo wheel likely to be much nicer to use than a standard leather wheel? i found a momo (used) for $300 - is that considered a good price? otherwise theres a few leather ones on ebay pretty cheap - probably better value to get one of those instead... |

Personally, I think the standard wheel is more comfertable then the momo. It comes down to the person though, I'm sure alot of people preffer the momo
