Default Ghia climate fan ecu on the blink.

Just before I bought my car someone replaced the fan ecu with a gen part. Last night the fan speed took on a mind of its own going up and down suddenly and randomly. Ford wont warrant the part as it was not fitted by a dealer. Anyway before I splash 400 bucks on a new one is there anything else I should check? (earths ) etc?? anyone else had a dodgy one or two of these?? its only 4 months old. I have receipt from auto elec place that did the job but they are at the other end of the country....

if it was fitted by a licenced auto electrician they must warrant it no ifs or buts threaten fair trading and you will get your money back. it is actually a breach of federal consumer law to say they must fit it to be covered it is considered anti competitive practice. this is why the must allow you to service your car at any licenced mechanic providing they follow the service schedule. car manufactures have been playing this game for years and have lost court cases before so they now know the drill and will cave in one you assert your self

its slightly complicated by the fact I did not pay for it as it was done 3 weeks before I bought the car by the previous owner. I do have the documentation for the job and it was carried out by an auto sparky. Im going to try the actual dealer who the sold the part to the sparky and see what they say....

Thanks for the replies guys... I have spoken to the sparky that did the job and he remembers the car.. said that these units pack up all the time. He is faxing the Ford invoice through so I can contact the selling dealer to arrange warranty on the part. Failing that I'll take the car back to the sparky and get him to deal with Ford direct so we will see.. In meantime I'll put up with the demonic fan.... :evil3:
