Default Car valuation?

Hey guys,

Where would I go to get an opinion of how much a car is worth? As in to sell.

My problem being that the snakeoil salesmen are a little on the dodgey side, and generally unreliable. Added to that the fact that the ute is a rather rare factory gas MANUAL AU3 SE. Meaning that Carsales etc are not much of a gauge as you rarely find the same model on there.
Any thoughts?

That will only tell you what people are asking for their cars, which is NOT the same as what they are selling for.

Redbook is handy as a rough guide to popular recent models where there is a lot of volume in the market, perhaps I should have pointed this out when I posted, I didn't have a lot of time.

Of course there will always be exceptions, especially with rare or collectable cars. It is totally pointless to say "my coupe is worth X and redbook says Y" something as (now) rare as an XA - XC coupe (I presume that's what you mean) is worth what ppl are prepared to pay. Most that I've seen advertised recently are rolling shells, maybe that skews the figures in Redbook's data?

I've used Redbook as a guide prior to selling 2 cars and buying 1, in every case the deals were done at prices within Redbook's range. As I said, a handy rough guide, not a bible.

from rego ... and also what people put down when they sell/transfer rego as well ... and a lot of people put lower prices on them ... just so the transfer fee is less ... so that screws things up as well..
They also go on market averages too.

Due to my kays ... I have been told my ute (even with all extras on it) ... is close to about $5-6K ... and it's only 6 years old.

that sort of makes me a little happier, as i got 6k for my AU3 SR Forte on trade in

- no horn or cruise control
- airbag not working
- headlights werent fitted properly
- bonnet not fitted properly
- clutch was stuffed
- leaked water into the car
- front paint doesnt match rest of car
- wrong steering rack fitted
- 3 days of rego left
- drivers seat and driver seat belt needed replacing
- remote doesnt work and only one key
- otherwise interior is immaculate and so was car until insurance neglected it

so i was happy to get anything for mine

Hee hee ... that's the reason why I have kept it for now.
I was looking at upgrading to a newer ute ... but haven't been bothered.

I had it advertised for about $11K though ... but got nothing ... and there were quite a few AU EGAS utes out there for sale ... and all of them had been on the market for a while too. I guess because of the ages of the vehicle ... people are after the B-series EGAS models more now.

dont use redbook.
use this one instead, its powered by GlassGuide which is what ALL caryards use.
if you want an EXACT figure on YOUR car, then use GlassGuide, pay for the service (one off fee) and you get to put in EVERY SINGLE detail of YOUR car and it will take everything into consideration and spit out a figure for you.

this one is www.drive.com.au (its under value my car)

Very interesting.... seems my sh*ty 96 model EF stocko is still actually worth something. Hooray for when I sell it and can put some coin towards an AUXR8III. Also interesting when i did an evaluation on the boyf's Pursuit 250, as he has low k's on it, it seems to be holding its value. Not that its going anywhere!

So who are the "Commercial Clients" that pay Redbook to use their service then?
