Hey Josh, if you're willing to remove, I've got an AU IRS I might be wanting to sell.

MADED-6, the EL LSD centre will fit in an AU IRS or LIVE AXLE centre.
I have fitted myself an AU LSD IRS centre in my systers EL Fairmont.

Yep it's LSD mate. Thought just occurred though, I need to keep the shell rolling, so I probably can't sell the diff for a while.

yeah it fits but doesnt have the cutouts so the circlip on the irs driveshafts can slot in so theyll fall out easier.
cheers josh.

Use AU cones, you should be able to swap them with some one, people are fighting over EL cones as they are a two piece (cone and side gear) set up.

TL6B2 the AU IRS diff center will fit an EL but are you absolutly certain that the EL fits in the AU IRS? because its just a groove in the splines which wouldnt effect the EL but is required in the IRS
cheers

Yes defiinitley will fit, I used to own/run Drivetech Automotive in coburg Melbourne,
And have expirience in diffs and autos, i have hung up my overalls/spaners im in a diffrent field now.
When i reco a lsd centre replacing the cones was an extra, we usualy machine them and shim them up. But if you have an el cone set up the diff place should exchange them if needed and there SERVICABLE (what i used to do).
You can go to Hitech Automatics & diffs (JIM) in Sunshine (9318-7780).

Buy memory you can leave the two piece EL cones in there as they have a groove where the side gear meats the cone and that will locate the circlip.

Just spoke to jim at Hitech and he has used the EL cones with success in an AU IRS.
IMO EL cones are better as they can be shimmed easier.

au^dude if you are planning to give the diff a hard time(drag racing etc) have a look at LOKKA's they seem pretty strong and cheap and they go straight in the center of the stock SS diff and are around $550 from memory + fitting(Think people were quoted $300 but apparently its DIYable too)

but yes its just the guts that needs changing

au^dude, if your after a miny spool you will get one at supa f seires on the hume hwy just after cooper st heading out of town on the right , it will cost you about $100, plus fitting
I dont recomend a miny spool though as it makes the car drive like a pig.

No I don't think so , but have you considered one of the torsion ? centres , I have one here in a volvo diff and they seem to work very well , often availible from 4wd places .

both hi tech and preston diffs quoted me the same price.
im thinking of just doing it myself now as some of the guys at work recon its not that hard to do on the irs.
they said theres like 2 nuts on each siode that seperate from the diff centre and then it just slides in and out.
well that was on a commodore but dont they use the same irs diff?
instead of having to spread the diff more with a live axle to get the centre back in.
correct me if im wrong.
cheers josh.

similar? Yes
The easiest way is to mark the nuts then count how many turns until they are of. Make shore you keep the left nut on the left, and the right on the right dont mix em up.

Also when screwing them back in you DO NOT over tighten them ( pre load ) also check that the centre is where it used to sit before removal . Give the pinion a turn to be shure that the gears are not binding. good luck

How much did they quote you?

ellery manual says to remove the diff it self

1)remove half shafts(as previously described)
2)remove exhaust from underside of drive unit
3)mark relationship of the flanges on the driveshaft and final drive unit(diff)
Important: also note any additional balances
4)disconnect driveshaft, then loosen the 2 rear mounting bolts. but do not fully remove bolts, allow them to still support diff.
5) remove the front mounting bolt then with the diff supported remove the 2 rear diff mounting bolts
6) lower diff and remove breather hose from top edge of rear cover

and your all done

well hitech quoted $880 if i take the car in and if i take just diff then $550 fully rebuilt and preston said $950 if i take car in but same if i take just diff in.
so i thought instead ill get some new bearings for it and fit it myself i tried to do it in my ed but it wouldnt go back in due to needing a diff spreader but if this one is just undo the nuts and do them back up carefully i recon i can handle that.
im a apprentice mechanic so not to bad with cars just never really touched diffs before.
so TL6B2 u recon its not to difficult and i can give it a go myself the guys at my work said they'll help.
the reason i wanna do it myself is then i got more money towards my tune which i want real bad lol.
cheers josh.

Since we are on the topic anyone got a rough figure on what some 3.9's would cost fitted?
