Default No spark? Sometimes...

Hi, I have an Au III ute on factory gas. I originally thought it had a problem with the gas system but now I think its the electrics. Last Thursday it wouldn't start all day and had no spark. Next morning it started an ran great all day. Next morning, it didn't start again. Same thing, no spark. It was like this all weekend and today, but just tried it then a of course it started! WTF? Any one have any ideas please? :

sounds like it is staying immobilised ... One thing I'd get checked first of all is if there is an earthing problem with the BEM (Body Electronics Module) ... this looks after Smartshield.

Have heard of issues with the BEM not reading from the transponder chip in the key as well from the ignition barrel too ... that's another issue.

So I guess when you say there is no spark ... does it actually try and crank over at all .... or is it just dead when trying to turn the key (no noise ... nothing).

hmmmm ... if it is intermittent ... your coilpack is working fine (it's weird if it works sometimes and others not).

To me it sounds like the BEM is keeping the vehicle immobilised on the odd occasion (hence no spark when cranking).

Is there an aftermarket headunit in your vehicle (I understand you only just bought it) ... there may be a dodgy connection with an earth mount behind the dash ... as the BEM is mounted under the panel (above your left knee when sitting in the driver's seat) ... i am pretty sure it uses a similar earthing point to the stereo.
