Just got wiped out by a Commodore

Coming home from the Docs after having a complete once over, everything perfect, blood pressure, colestoral, blood sugar levels etc, all good.
Driving my sons Corolla that we'd just got in Dec for him to learn in, 1996 CSX top of the wozza great car, new clutch, timing belt and water pump.
Pulled up at a red light and just sitting there 4th in line and then what I thought was a bomb went off.

I got thrown completely out of my seat (yes my belt was on) and hit the rear view mirror, slammed back into my seat and snapped it the bang again and flung up to the top of the windscreen, WTF.

Went to get out to see if I'd run over a land mine but couldn't open my door, climbed over and got out the passengers door to see some woman in a Commodore wagon just run striaght up the back of me at 70 kays, no brakes no nothing, just wham bam thank you maam.

Including her car 5 cars were damaged, mine the worst.
Written off I'd say without doubt, lucky we took out comprehensive insurance, paid 5 g valued at 7and a half, thank you.
But I'm very very sore, my neck is killing me and it felt like a mule kicked me in the back.

No body injured apart from whip lash, pretty pished about the car, it was a ripper and took ages to find, have to start looking again.

Cops turned up and got a statement off her saying "My foot slipped".
I didn't talk to her because I wanted to kill her, so I left it to the others.
My son is pretty disappointed, lucky we went for a last long drive last night on his L's.

Lucky it wasn't my clevo XC or I might be up on an assault charge.

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear about your accident but so glad to hear that you are ok (Except a sore neck) Cars can be replaced...You can't!

sorry to hear, but if yours is the red car and hers is the black car, that was not a 70kmh hit id hate to tell you.
if it was a 70kmh hit in the arze, the hatch would be sitting behind the drivers seat.

make sure you go see a doctor too and get a once over. problems can occur later down the track and if you dont have it documented, theres nothing you can do about it.

Yeah you're probably right. I didn't hear any brakes screeching, but then I wouldn't would I, she probably had ABS, so yes it was probably more like 30-40 kays, what ever it was I was blown clean out of my seat and I'm over 6 foot.
Off to the Docs again in the morn.

3rd that motion. My uncle got rear ended in 2003 and is still having trouble with his neck. He gets bad migraines, and it's really stuffed his life up.

At least you managed to walk away. It looked like a hard hit, that's for certain.

i agree.. get a medical report on file!!! if it stuffs you in short or long term you can't prove nothing...!!!!

Not that I am any sort of expert but I am not convinced she wasn't doing 70kph? It wouldn't surprise me if she was in fact going that fast. If he didn't have his foot hard on the break when she hit? May explain the minor damage to the back end and the more severe on the front. Also allow for the car in front of him to absorb some of the impact. Would explain him being thrown around.

Ouch dude that's no good.

But, this accident is the reason I leave reasonably large gaps between my car and the one in front when I'm stopped at lights. I don't trust the people behind me and if you get shunted into another vehicle by the one behind you, the insurance situation can get messy.

It's a huge shock, this happened to me and my brother and his missus about 15 years ago, peak hour traffic on Hoddle St Melbourne. Coming home from the beach one day, clown behind didnt seem to notice the traffic was stopped and hit us at probably the same speed. I was in the back seat and got thrown up into the roof and the car (Grandfather's Datsun Stanza) was a right off.

Luckily for me the worst injury was a huge lump on my scone from the button on my hat hitting the roof. The bloke behind copped a huge serve and he drove off in a stuffed car also

Main thing all is ok

I hear a possible third party bodily claim on order. It's a good idea incase there is sustained neck damage. Just make sure you keep receipts of all the doctors, physio, chiro and specialist appointment you make. Then claim it with the government when u can. Hopefully u will be duly compensated, assuming you want to head down that path.

Yeh ditto from me too , go to the docs & do everything that you can to make sure you do not get stuffed around by the authorities.

I had even a worse accident than that, i should have been dead , but with all my sports activities i did when young , & was still doing them, saved my neck from snapping, i got hit while making a right hand turn from the rear by a big fairlaine & i was in an xa sedan, the car was hit at 100 kmh when the driver should have only been doing 60 kmh, but being stopped & waiting my turn to go, i saw this big thing coming in the rear view & the driver had plenty of room to go down the side, but with no brakes on he hit me & my arms took all the force & my neck snapped back 3 times with me looking out the back window because the back of my seat collapsed, all i wanted to do was get out of the car as soon as i could because the boot was in the back seat, the excuse of the p later was the sun was in his eyes & he couldn't see my car.
there was no skid marks on the road & my car got pushed 30 meters down the road with on coming traffic having to avoid hitting me. That was one wild ride.

I still get pain in the shoulders but i live with it now, at least i was able to do most things i did before. Even the neuro surgens could not believed i survived such an impact?

So guys make sure you play plenty of sports & keep fit, that was in 1992 & i can still play tennis & kick a footy & bowl cricket balls etc, at the young age of 56 & just got myself a new bicycle to have some fun & go for long rides.

Did the guy go to jail or at least lose his license? These days if he were caught doing 100 in a 60 he'd be in big poo in QLD, and even more poo if he crashed while doing said speed.

When he hit me the cops said he was doing about 70k's but because he didn't hit the brakes & that i was stationary they said he hit me at around 100 or 120k's i was still in hospital when the court case was heard & all he got 3 years cancellation of his drivers license, & lied to his teeth, his father was a big wig & they lived in Toorak , the charge he got charged with careless & dangerous driving with not thinking about why he didn't go around me or slam on the brakes
He should have gone to jail for 6 months - 3 years but when your family has money for the best lawers , this guy was lucky i didn't break his legs, when i got out & went over to his car , he had a real hot chick in the front & i was more worried about her than myself, i called the ambulance & they took them away & said they will send for another one for me, so i stayed on the side of the road & waited with people all around worried about what they had seen , & could not believe that i wasn't in the ambulance with the couple. then all of a sudden the ground started spinning & i was in big trouble, the next thing a remember is that i was being looked after by 3 neuro surgeons that said i should not have been alive.

If i had died he would have gone for manslaughter & there was no way his wealthy family could have got him out of that & he would have gone to jail for 15 years.

TAC fixed me up but it took 3 years of hard gym work & swimming to get me back to were i was before the accident?

I think if he had been doing 100k's without putting on the brakes ( they say that when a stationary car gets hit you can double that speed at impact) i don't think there would have been anything left of the car or me, as it was the both cars were right off's. I am still glad i can tell the story rather than being 6 ft in the ground?

not correct! hitting a stationary object at a given speed results in that given speed being the impact speed. if the two objects are travelling towards each other the impact speed will be much greater. somewhere in the vicinity of the 2 speeds combined. if the 2 objects are travelling in the same direction then the impact will be less obviously.

regarding the crashed up corolla - that'll buff out!!

I was going straight, he did a right hand turn into me.
My Result: Broken leg and no more Triumph Trophy 900.
His Result: I think he was inconvenienced by not having a car for a few days, but thats about it !

I don't know about most people, but if I couldn't see what was coming down the road, I wouldn't turn !

That was not good for you, & that is why i never rode a motorbike just push bikes , i hope you got fixed up with well enough to walk good again & not hobble

You were lucky at just getting a broken leg.

Foot slipped what a classic, was she wearing high heels with slippery soles as this would be the only way & if she was is still her fault for wearing shoes like this to drive in & also if she was braking earlier she would have had time to apply the brakes before hitting anything.

She was most likely on the Mobile or doing her makeup

Make her insurance cover your medical costs mate... its not your fault so why do you have to pay the bills?... dont you have an emotional stress disorder now? a fear of driving and being outdoors? fear or women behind the wheel on Holdens? (dont we all have that last fear anyway? :P)

bad luck mate. doesn't really look that bad in the photos though. You were unlucky to get whiplash. sounds like the seat belt didnt do its job. I've been in a few accidents (only 1 my fault) and I've always got out no worries. Every one I have realised its about to happen and braced for it though so I guess it would be different if your just sitting there unaware.

Looking at the damage of the Adventura, it couldn't have been traveling that fast at all. Looks like the impact has just popped the bonnet.
