Sadly yes I think too high in this current market.
I had the exact XR8 (in perfect condition) and sold it for $19 ? I think a year and half ago !
When you can get a XR6T for not much more now second hand or even a BA3V fairmont ghia why pay $18k for a AU8 would be in the mind of the buyer unless he/she is a AU enthusiast.
Either hang on for now and Hope she sells or dump the price to create some interest.

It is the last of the 5.0 Litre V8 engines. It may hold some value. I would check car advertisement sites and get a feel for it from them comparing cars in similar condition and specs to yours.

Hi,
I purchased my car approx 4 months ago for $20,000.00 from a car dealer so I don't think your pricing is too far out. Unfortunelty due to the new model coming out it has pushed the prices of the older ones down. But if you don't have to sell in a hurry I would keep that price it only takes one Ford Lover to sell it and you can always take offers.

Just checked red book, on private sales they say $9,800 - $11,400 so personally i think that is asking a bit too much and as Mrs XR8 said about the new falcon being out now you will be able to get a BA xr8 for basically the same price.

I just paid 14k for mine with 123000 kms.

When I was looking, most autos were around 15-16k and the couple of manuals were around 18-20k. I wanted a manual but I wasnt prepared to pay over 15 for one. This is in the west where prices are apparently higher than the rest of the country so yours does seem a little pricey.

There's a very small market for your type of vehicle. It may take a while.

i wouldnt go by what redbook says, there prices are way under priced

i havnt seen any au3 xr8's for 10 grand

id say around $15-16grand is about right. but even so i had mine for sale for $15grand and only got 2 phonecalls. then i deceided to keep it.
petrol prices would be playing a factor aswell.

How many km's have you done?

If it's ultra low mileage, say less than 80,000km, it might be worth it, but pretty much all AUs have gone into 6 figures now.

If it's done 140,000 or so I'd be thinking $14-16,000ish.

mine has 105k on it plus it has full ford service/logbooks.
its a realy nice car guys and i won't be giving it away for what the red book recommends. the price is negotiable, seems like 16-17k is where the market is.

FYI I just sold my auto 8/01 AU2 XR8 220 with 130 000kms for $15k. It had no options but was very straight and clean and drove like new. I'm in WA.

It took over 3 months, I had 6 calls in this whole time, 4 of which were genuine and 3 people came to look at it. It took a while, but I loved the car and was happy to hang onto it if no one offered what I wanted.

Your car has great options and should be worth at least $16-$17k (I mean, what a great car for that money!) If yours was manual it may have sold already. Just be patient until the right person comes along and don't let it go for a ridiculous price. We owe it to these great cars!

One day I'll buy another.... maybe a Blueprint manual AU3 XR8 (or T3 TE 50) with leather and sunroof and keep it forever!

IMHO they look better now with afew years under theirs belts then when they did new, they fit in more as a result of this.
There are plenty of EL's out there if you look hard enough.

TIC-302, its a pity you have to sell her mate its an awesome car.

I think the AU XR's, being the last of the true XR's, will pick up......While it's true the AU's are ageing, the AU XR8 was the equivalent of a B series GT in terms of sporty appeal in its era..It was the top of the line in the AU model line up...and the only AU that had that "wow I want one" factor.

If I were you I'd keep it, store it, and in 10 years time you may get $30-40k.

While BA XR's have come down in price, they don't have that same appeal factor among the B series range being as common as a whore in the Cross...No disrespect, but compared to the XR's from EB through to AU the BA XR doesn't hold a candle.

Crikey if I had a spare garage I'd even buy it...Is it Silhouette or Blueprint?

EB to AU XR8's will be the next white collar, mid life crisis performance car..like 70's GT's are right now...mark my words. That's after the XE ESP has had its day in the sun of course.

The guy I use for detailing drives a black AU XR8 and he wants to buy a B series FPV...I talked him out of it...His car will be an icon

Edit...Just looked at your pics...Too nice to let go for $15k...Keep it !!

Havnt you heard of T Series cars, they were the TOP of the line AU and the equivlent BA GT of the AU range not XR8's.
To OP pity you have to sell mate very nice example of an XR indeed

No offense mate, but I fail to see how you came up with this theory? Keeping an AU XR8 for 10 years will increase it's value from $14,000 to $40,000 how? It's not a classic.

Noone would be willing to pay $40,000 for an 18 year old XR8 when they can buy the latest XR8 for only slightly more. I've not seen a factory or even modified EB XR8 sell for $40,000 this year.

These days you can buy 2002 and 2003 BA XR6s for $15,000 - $15,500, albeit with 100,000 - 140,000kms.

10 years might be a bit optimistic... 30 years is when it starts to happen.

Case in point: the XC Cobra. This was generally considered a joke when it was released. Most came with the 302 with 2V carbie, single pipe, slushbox and crippling ADR27A emissions gear. The 302 in that spec was nothing special, 10 sec 0-100, easily matched by a manual 2-litre Escort, and SFA V8 burble... you couldn't pick it from the 250 sitting in the passenger's seat. How much do they sell for now?

And how about a "Genuine GS"? WTF is that, apart from not cheap these days? A stripes and driving lights package? It wasn't on the radar in the '70's... today's equivalent is "SR" or "Lumina" FFS.

Neither of those were considered likely to be classics back in their day.

So a 2001 XR8 should be kept for another 23 years or so to be worth something. Starting to wish I'd picked up the EB XR8 I saw a few months ago at around $3500. That'd have to be about the bottom, it'd start to go up from there.

I sold my 08/02 with 97000k in Feb for $15k as well. Must be the going price in the west. Like markxr6t mine was straight and clean and not optioned. Do I regret it?.... yes. Will I buy another one?.... Probably!

I would love it - but do not have the means to purchase it at the moment. (cue sad face...)

Have you reconsidered what you are asking for it at the moment ?

See AU2/3 XR8s on carsales at any price from 12.5k to 20k - so I guess it's a tricky one to value, condition and options do of course make a heck of a difference to the desirability to each car !
