Are they all the same, Russ?

The last time I got one (just before GAFD) I was told there was only one type for the AU. So tinted it is.

They should, the mirror is stuck on with a special glue takes them about 5 mins to do.
But be careful that you don't bump it once it has been put on, it may not stick properly, move it to where you want it and then leave it alone for at least 24 hours and all should be good after that.

I was lucky I selected unlimited windscreen replacement on both my vehicles.
Only $5 a month from memory with NRMA.

Walked out one early morning to find a straight crack from top to bottom (not long after my rear vision mirror broke off from too much bass).

Rang NRMA ... they had a glassier out the next day (lucky I had a replacement rear vision mirror to put on) .. and they replaced it at home for me ... put the new mirror or ... swapped my rego sticker and RTA ETAG for me as well. Took the guy about 15 minutes all up to do the window. I was impressed.

It is worth getting the cover through your insurance really.

I have the same thing and just got my renewal from NRMA and the cost for that premium has gone up to $62 a year.
Still a good investment its not limited to one screen a year or so I was told.

Nah, Ive only ever replaced 2 windscreens, not worth the extra $$$ a year.
Unfortunately there are only 3 windscreen places here, closet is 40km away and he is just as pricey.
And to top off the week, jumped in the car this morning and the battery had died. Ive pinched the one out of the XM for the time being. What the hell is with the stupid plastic thing around the battery that makes it near impossible to get the battery out, lucky I had a couple of pairs of vice grips..

Thats to catch any leaking i think. I know they were fitted to some E series (my ED had one) where they used to have a small snorkel fitted to keep the battery cool...apparently they liked to explode...

battery life is reduced significantly when exposed to high temp's

hence they put that shield around and you will find on the AU it has a snorkel down the front somewhere so it gets some nice cool air flowing around it

and yes it is an absolute pain to get a battery in or out(especially a nice big optima yellow top!!) ... watch those fingers..

No it is not limited ... so if you need to get it replaced they do it ... good if you do a lot of country driving really.

I found the windscreen guy had little issues with the AU screen ... I remember having one done on a 1990 Corolla ... and it was a right pain to replace .. the screen literally smashed on removal and all the little pieces have had to be cleared out ... and it had to be taped down afterwards ... whereas the Falcon screen is covered all around the edge and slots in nicely when it the new one was dropped in.
