Default Lukey VS redback VS ???? (6 cyl)

Hey guys, this is a 6 cylinder related session.

Ive been debating with alot of people about exhaust system brands.

The commy's 6's sound better with lukeys i've noticed.

And from most exhaust shops experiances, redback's have sounded better on the I6, and from personal experiance, it sounded damn good on my XG.

Whats peoples thoughts on this? I've heard many AU's and E-series drive by and all you here is an annoying drone, not a well shaped note.

If anyone thinks they all sound the same then i would prefer you keep it to yourself as i'd like this to be a pretty informative thread.

All comparitive experiances of any brand welcomed

On my EA I had HM headers, 2.5inch exhaust with a redback chambered muffler and mandrel bent tail pipe with no resonator. It was load and had a great note but my ea was a manual.
When I sold the EA I transferred the full exhaust off it and put it on my AU XR6 auto and it now drones and gets in your ear a bit.
Another thing is Different extractors will change the note dramatically. Both me and my brother have the same exhaust but I have HM's and he has genies and they sound completely different.

My car with Hi-Tech headers, H/F cat, and a small lukey muffler is a pretty unique sound for a 6. Down low and at idle its pretty loud and annoying. When you drive it, it isnt that loud if you be sensible.

When you stomp on it, you can definatly hear the growl and crackle/

On my old AU six I had a 2.5" Lukey cat back system with one muffler and no resonator. It had a really nice crisp note to it, never droned and sounded good at idle. In my experience, the Redbacks don't sound anywhere near as crisp, kind of like a muffled fart.

My XR6 ran Pacemakers with a redback with no resonator for 4 years and it sounded pretty good.
I put a 3inch metalcat and a powerflow straight thru muffler on it 6 months ago or so and it sounds awesome now, much deeper at low rpm and it screams at wot .

Ive got a lukey system on mine. one muffler one hotdog. sounds awesome and is still loud when you get up it.

never liked the sound of the redbacks. they sound a bit muffled and lame and droney. they dont have that "lukey growl" or crispness that the lukey has.

^^sorry, off topic, but it appears you need a new o2 sensor, judging by the smoke at start up and revving it

yeah only does it when stone cold. been meaning to get a new sensor for a while. fuel economy is still around 12-13L/100km on combined city-highway cycle. though it eats it just around town :

I'll have to post up a soundbyte or a video of mine.

Mine is a custom system, 2.5" pipe from the cat, to a 'Scorpion' high flow muffler, 2.5" pipe to rear resonator, with 2.75" short section to tip.

It badly needs a service, new O2 sensor, fuel pressure regulator and new cat, to say the least, but it still has a pretty unique sound. Deep and burbley most of the time, breaking into a yell above 2,500rpm and then a raucous scream above 4,000rpm.

I'll look into getting a vid or something, maybe even see if I can get a mic hooked up through the boot, and take it for a drive.

My mate has an EF fairmont with 2.5" mandrel bent redback system from cat back, AU cat, and Lukey extractors and it sounds almost v8 like. The mufflers included a typical glass pack baffled muffler and resi to reduce noise as this was a requirement for my mate.

I have only heard 1 other E series ever with a similar sound but every other E or AU vehicle sounds droney or different in some way.

I'd say Paccies are better for overall performance, but Lukeys are better for a beefier note.

Ok, this is a vid of my system. The audio is OK, but doesnt come close to capturing the deep sound at idle, or the outright volume of the revs, but its good enough for the moment.

Ignore the water coming out of the exhaust, I hosed a few bits around the car this morning, including the engine bay (yes I was careful) so its had a bit of water in the intake and the exhaust.

Yeah I'm quite happy with it.

Of all the off the shelf cat-back systems I've heard, I like the Lukey the best. Although they seem a bit quieter, they dont sound like a fart. They have a sharper growlier note. Where as the cheaper redback systems IMO dont sound that crash hot.

If anyone is in Brisbane I'd recomend Men at Work in Capalaba (PM me for the number). I know I shouldnt be advertising them, but I got really good service from them. They were happy to talk about the system, and they have great attention to detail. Like lining up the exhaust tip in just the right spot in the bumper cut out, so it didnt look retarded. Good bunch.

ive got a VCT Xr6 on a 2 1/2" redback and it's the second best sound i've heard, the first being that of an Xr8. The Windsor is just music to my ears

I had a Pacemaker 4499s for the LPG ... 2.5" stright through ... one small muffler at the rear (Lukey) ... dumper tip ... stage 2 LPG cam.

It was deep ... and loud ... too loud at times ... lovely lope at idle too. Had many people ask my why i did deliveries in a V8 ... The ute would get a nice shake at idle that the aerial would wobble about.

No sound byte sorry ... I loved it though ... sounded great when getting up it in the city.
