As the owner of 3 Subaru Liberty’s in the last couple of years with my latest being an MY09 purchased a few weeks ago, the design direction Subaru are taking is a worry. With the all new Liberty due for release next year I hope it doesn't take one single design cue from the monstrosity known as the Impreza sedan. The rear and side profile are just wrong. The fact that Toyota have invested heavily into Subaru in recent times says they'll probably become another white goods on wheels car company.

It does if it follows the Financial Year convention. At the moment we're in Financial Year FY09. ( July 2008 - June 2009 )

I don't exactly know if it follows the financial year calendar but the car is different to the MY08 model in that it has leather and dynamic stability control std, which is a running change hence the MY09. The reasoning I always thought behind building a car in one year and calling it the next year’s model was to help with resale values and from the manufacture point of view I'm sure it helps get a sale across the line because the customer feels like there not buying something that's just about to be replaced. I think Holden are also starting to use the MY prefix with the crummydore. Smoke and mirrors.

Eeek. It looks like a cross between a Hyundai Excel and a Corolla.

Ugly as a hatfull, however, I’m sure there’d be people out there willing to buy them.

The new model subies look like crap makes me appreciate the old ones, more style by far. Maybe they sacked their design team. The new impressa wrx only comes in hatch IMO the sedans always looked better.

We forget who is a large shareholder in Subaru. They make the most popular four wheeled fridge in the world.

I expected no different - The Tribeca was the first move, then the Forrester/Imprezza hatch was the follow up. Subaru have indeed lost the plot.

MY09 WRX comes in sedan and hatch.

Apparently Cody Crocker/Dean Herridge pulled a 13.27 @163.02km/h 1/4 mile and did 0-100km/h in 5.31 secs using a VBox (don't know how accurate those things are)

They might be quick etc, but they look absolutely horrible. If I wanted a fast four awd, couldn't go past an EVO, with whats available on our market.

The sedans do look awful.
A friend has the RX Impreza hatch, and it's not too bad, but her sister has a Mazda 3 SP23 hatch, and she hates driving the Suby. She says it's gutless.

The Impreza sedan looks like a cheap piece of Korean scrap metal. It does look a lot like a Kia.
I thought the Impreza hatches looked fantastic (my friend has one and she loves it), but this sedan is frankly vomit inducing.

I think Wheels had a front cover on one of their issues towards the start of this year, "Subaru Impreza sedan...what have they done?"

I am still waiting for an answer.

Oh god kill it.

I shudder to think what Subaru is going to do to the Liberty/Legacy after their latest efforts.

At least post a warning in the title before you post a pic like that I was having lunch. Suburu seem to be on a mission to make each new model uglier than the last - where are they going to go from here?
